Sorry, We’re Closed.

Daddy has hooked us up with a little vacation – a “family getaway,” if you will. Or a recovery from having house guests and a little family time before we all go our separate ways again next week, whatever you want to call it, we are at a sweet resort in Carmel Valley for the weekend.

I know, I know! I owe you all the dirt on how we survived six kids – SIX KIDS – for a week, and also a whole slew of fun photos of the girls and their sweet cousins. And I promise, I’ll get right on that…when we return.

For now, Happy 4th! Be safe, have fun and we’ll see you when we get back. That is…if we make it back. This place is ah-MAZE-ing. We might just stay for a few more days…

(Sign courtesy of Em & Ad when they were playing restaurant in the playroom a few weeks ago. Even better was the one they put on the other door that leads to the bathroom!)

We have two 7-year olds!

No CT today…we are too busy soaking up the last few hours with our cousins…and celebrating Madey Mac Munchie Mo’s 7th birthday!

We have a few fun things planned, so we’ll be back to tell you all about it tomorrow.

In the meantime sending out huge wishes and kisses to one of my favorite nieces! Hope your 7th birthday is the best yet, Mo!

We love you!

Crafty Tuesday

I have just one little thing to show you today, and just five minutes to put it up.

I’ve been wanting to try Sew A Straight Line’s domesticated skirt for a while now. Turns out it is super easy, very fun and looks amazing on my Domestic Goddess friend, Jamie, who celebrated a birthday last week. Is it a skirt? Is it an apron? It’s both! And reversible, too…
I’ll have to get a pic of her modeling it for us, since this is one time the skirt most definitely does not look better on the hanger.

DSC_0106-5.jpg

I may have enough fabric for one for me, too, yippee!

Although it most definitely will not be completed this week – I have six littles (well five littles and one almost teen) running around the house. We have the chaos controlled (barely) for now, but we’ve only been down two adults since yesterday morning. Hopefully Meesh & DJ are having an amazing, relaxing time in Hawaii.

Hmmm….I think someone needs a diaper change. I’m off.

Daddies are for…

…giving the best tickles.

The thing that constantly amazes me with good Daddies is their need to protect and take care of their family.
I admire that so much in my own Dad and now see it between J. and the girls.
Thank you to my Dad and to J. for being such great Daddies and taking good care of all of us.

Happy Father’s Day.

We love you,

Weekly, er…Monthly (?!) Wrap-up

DSC_0298.jpg

Has it really been that long? Yikes. I tried to do a quick little wrap-up of our last few weeks, and realized that is pretty much impossible. So here is the abridged version, mostly in photos because even though we have been taking it easy this week, I still need to prepare for my nieces and nephew who all arrive tomorrow!

So…speed round, here we go!

Emma’s artwork was chosen for a little art show. She was adorable all dressing up for the showing. Hers is the very cool Brontosaurus dino one there…

DSC_0010.jpg

From dinosaurs to lions! Both of the girls were in the Spring Musical at church. Em was a tormenting lion with lines (I’ll post the video soon, promise!) and Ad was a lion cub. Could she be any cuter?

DSC_0126-5.jpg

I didn’t get many shots of Em, especially with her hood on. I was backstage getting the cubs hooded and ready for their entrance. This shot was after the bows were taken and while they were getting their choir awards. She looked as exhausted as I felt.

And then it was time for school to end. Proud preschool graduates, look out kindergarten!

DSC_0071-5.jpg

We had a little picnic in the Secret Garden to celebrate with all of our preschool friends…

DSC_0080-5.jpg

And said goodbye to those who wouldn’t be going to our kindergarten.

DSC_0077-5.jpg

And then it was time for the first graders to cross over into the world of SECOND grade. I am still in denial that I have a second grader. How is that possible??

DSC_0087-5.jpg

And we celebrated with a serious farewell-to-first-grade Carnival – complete with popcorn machine, cotton candy, caricature artist, games, face painting and of course, popsicles!

DSC_0149-5.jpg

On to the next day. And another celebration! Our Daisies bridged over and became Brownies! All sixteen of them crossed the bridge, looked into the pond and then we had a big party!

DSC_0100-5.jpg

But our celebrating didn’t end there. On Monday we traveled to the stables and the girls got to try their hands at horseback riding. This was their end-of-year activity and celebration for selling so many cookies! All of them groomed and rode the horses and Emma asked the minute she got down, “Can I please take horseback riding lessons??”

DSC_0140-1.jpg

Through it all, Ad tried ever so patiently to be a good sport. And she was, mostly.

DSC_0290-5.jpg

And she also found her swimming mojo again this week. I had to pry both girls out of the pool after five hours of swimming yesterday. Yeah! Summer is here.

And not a minute too soon. Believe it.

Dipy Week #21 ~ Chaos

You’d think with a blog name like BarelyControlledChaos we would have all kinds of photos for this week theme, Chaos. But wouldn’t you know…this week we have had very little chaos around here. I think it is a well-deserved break, or maybe the calm before the storm. Because next week? Next week – there will be chaos.

A little bit of chaos over at my partner’s place, though. Can’t you just hear Raya, “OHHHH! You want this toy? This one? The one that I have here in MY hand? Yeah….I think…NO.”

Ha! I love it.

Dipy Week #21 ~ Chaos

Over at our place, the pets are ruling the roost. What? Littlest Pet Shop and Pollys shouldn’t cohabitate?

Well, I only have so many bins and so much patience. So they all live in chaos over at our house.

Crafty Tuesday

Whew…it has been a week, or four. I have been compiling a list of all the things I have yet to blog about and I hope to have that up sometime before the summer is out. Ha. But I do have a little CT to show today. I present to you Crafty Tuesday…the chalkboard edition.

Yes, I have become obsessed with the chalkboard paint. We painted flowerpots for all the teachers with said paint. Filled them with paper flowers (on pencils), love notes (because all of our teachers were so fabulous this year), and Sbux gift cards (because all teacher apparently need a gallon of coffee each day) and then the girls decorated them with chalk. They were kinda a big hit, I think.

DSC_0005.jpg

DSC_0010.jpg

And then we used a little of the paint on the top of the girls’ table in the playroom. It had been desecrated and I was going to just repaint it anyhow, so why not use chalkboard paint? Mmmmm…nice clean blackboard table.

DSC_0179.jpg

And finally, the wall that started it all. The playroom painting is done. There is nothing hung back up on the wall yet, but…It.Is.Painted. Yahoo!

DSC_0180-1.jpg

And the chalkboard is well-loved, as you can see. We all like to doodle on it and the calendar rocks. I love seeing six weeks worth of stuff at a time.

DSC_0175-1.jpg

And the rest of the room got weeded out a bit, a nice new color and some new organization. Except for that craft corner over there. See the p-i-l-e on the ironing board? Yeah. That is next.

DSC_0178.jpg

Ok, back to decompressing after our crazy past week. I’d love to see what you are all up to – so leave it!
