Crafty Tuesday

Hey there. Remember me? This post was meant for last week, while I was camping, but is being brought to you this week (since I forgot to post this craftiness) this week whilst I am tromping around London with my sweet J. We are having a fantastic time, but I’m almost, nearly at that point…the one where it is just time to come home already. And I’m definitely at that point where I’m ready to wrap my arms around my girls and give them great big hugs. I really, really (no REALLY!) miss them.

So one more day here in jolly ol’ England – we are off to see a cricket match – and then we are on our way to Michigan to pick up two weary travelers and then head home to LA!

BUT, before I am off, a few birthday presents I finished up before our travels. I’m caught up through June…only July birthdays to work on now. (Yes, I’m well aware of the fact that it will be nearly August by the time I return. Thanks for pointing that out, though.)

FINALLY finished a little lickety-split bag that has been cut out and on my ironing board since – and I’m not even kidding! – MARCH! Happy Birthday, Vic. I hope you like it. I actually made it a little larger than the pattern in hopes that she could slide her laptop in there when she needs to traipse off to U of M…or just stuff it with diapers for Sarah and dry clothes for the Z. man.

And I finished up our sweet little friend Henry’s cape. He wanted a green horse birthday party when he turned three a few weeks ago. Green is his fave color…and his initials are H-H-H, hence the H3 little logo and his green cape. He loved it. I’ll have to grab some pics when we return.

And finally finished up a little messenger bag for my sweet niece who turned 7 when she was visiting California a few weeks ago. She requested a pink bag. And that is what she got.  Excuse the poor photos, I took the photos literally a few hours before I left the house for our vacation.

I promise I’ll be back to whittling down my blog reader in a few days, so let me know if you have some crafty goodness today!

We are camping…

…sort of.

  • I’m sitting out under the beautiful canopy of trees on my laptop, since there is free wireless on our side of the campground. It is very spotty and doesn’t always work, but um…we are camping!
  • We have hot showers, since we are positioned very close to the bathrooms.
  • Our “home” for the week is about twice the size of J. and my first apartment, since Meesh & DJ bought a beautiful camping trailer.

So yeah, we are not really roughing it around here, but it has been a bunch of fun. The girls are having a great time learning all kinds of new songs and meeting new friends all over the campground. We all got to ride horses and we have made a ton of smores.

So, I feel like I got my camping fix, and now on the way to the airport, the adventure continues…

July 2010 A.N. (After Newmans)

If you missed the first installment of our Summer Extravaganza (June 2010 D.N. – During Newmans), you can get caught up here. Or if you don’t really care, here’s the lowdown –

They came. We saw. We conquered.

And then…the Voris’ needed a little downtime. Since we are not doing a big family vacation this summer, (all together that is – more on that in a moment) Daddy decided we needed to go stay a few days near San Diego just the four of us. He found and booked this really nice hotel for us and so we said goodbye to Aunt Meesh, packed our bags and headed south.

(Again…you are getting SOOC, I don’t have any free time to doing any editing or fancying up of the photos!)

Very posh. That pretty much sums up the joint we stayed at.

Emma loved the “very comfortable beds” – until she fell out of one in the middle of the night.

DSC_0020.jpg

Addie loved the bathtub that was as deep and big as a jacuzzi.

DSC_0012.jpg

DSC_0017.jpg

Mama loved the canyon with all kinds of running trails, peace and quiet.

DSC_0022.jpg

Addie and Mama loved the insane flowers in the lobby.

DSC_0035.jpg

Addie and Daddy loved the restaurant at the hotel.

DSC_0266.jpg

The girls loved the family pool area – THREE pools! All heated. Pretty much every waking moment spent at the hotel was in the pools.

DSC_0248.jpg

We all loved the SeaWorld trip we took.

DSC_0076.jpg

Daddy just loved having some time with his girls.

DSC_0054.jpg

It was an incredibly relaxing and fun way to spend our long 4th of July weekend.

DSC_0155.jpg

And now our summer adventure continues. As I mentioned, we are not taking a big “just-us-four-family” vacation this year, but we are heading out this weekend for more vacation time.

The girls and I are flying to Michigan to go camping with Aunt Meesh and the cousins for a few days, then Mama (me!) is leaving her birdies behind with Meesh (paybacks!) to join up with Daddy in London for a week! After much discussion, we decided that the girls are still not really old enough to appreciate Europe and all it has to offer. But Mommy and Daddy will appreciate being able to travel a little bit knowing that the girls are happy hanging with their cousins and grandparents.

So that is the plan. Sounds good, no? I’m not sure how much updating I’ll be doing from the road, but you don’t really mind these hodge podge, crammed chock-full updates every third week or so, right? Hello? Did anyone even make it through to the end of these last two posts?

Cheerio! Until next time…

Dipy Week #24 ~ 100 steps from the front door

100steps.jpg

My partner-in-crime is on vacation this week, but look at us! We both managed to get our acts together and do TWO photos last week so we could participate this week.

Kimberly suggested walking 100 steps from our front doors and shooting what we find. Apparently she has all kinds of deliciousness right outside of her door!

When I paced off my 100 steps – I was smack dab in the middle of the street…so I turned around and faced my favorite place. With all of the traveling we are about to do, I love remembering how great it feels to come back home.

June 2010 D.N. (During Newmans)

Okay, at long last…a little round-up from the last few weeks around here while the Newman clan visited.

And as I’m sorting through nearly 800 photos, (and those are just of when the cousins were here!) I’ve decided that there will not be any photo editing or nice bordering going on here. There are just TOO many photos. So, what you see is what you get. And I’ll try to edit myself so that this doesn’t go on for days. Already, it might, ok, MOST definitely will need to be a two-part mini-series.

But, to all the naysayers and people who called us crazy – we did six kids for the week, and we did just fine! Everyone was bathed (for the most part), well-fed, and no ER visits. I can’t recall for sure, but I believe we didn’t even have a band-aid incident, which all adds up to a successful week in my book. Of course, I had Lexer, who is quite the mother’s helper, J. made sure to come home early-ish almost every night, and I conned our sweet 14-year old friend to come help me when we went to the pool so I had an extra set of hands.

We managed a zoo trip…
(See the cute monkeys?)

DSC_0072.jpg

Although, the “best baby in the world” probably doesn’t remember much of it…
(See the little joey in his kangaroo pouch?)

DSC_0073.jpg

We had a lot of popsicles…

race_car_driver.jpg

Tried out the Easy Bake Oven…

DSC_0094.jpg

And swam…

DSC_0106.jpg

A lot…

DSC_0126.jpg

Just a little more…

DSC_0116.jpg

We hula-hooped…
DSC_0205.jpg

We were sassy…
(Ha! Actually she was great all week, but this photo! But that is my SasserElla!)

DSC_0233.jpg

Some were just stinkin’ cute…

DSC_0472.jpg

And before we knew it, Meesh and DJ were back from Hawaii. Feeling the love…
(DJ hates cats, but Tiger LOVES him!)

DSC_0052.jpg

So we did the requisite tour of Hollywood…
(Squint through the haze you can see the Hollywood sign up there!)

DSC_0531.jpg

Visited with some friends…

DSC_0522.jpg

And some stars…

DSC_0526.jpg

Showed Lexer where she will sing when she makes the next American Idol…

DSC_0514.jpg

And made sure she got to go have the Miley Cyrus milkshake…
(Although she was led to believe that all the pop stars hang out here, and we didn’t see one!)

DSC_0535.jpg

Mmmm…milkshakes…

DSC_0537.jpg

Then we took a trip to the beach…
(In the middle of the chilly June gloom that has extended into July. It IS JULY now, gloom go away.)

DSC_0548.jpg

After being buried in the sand, took a dip to wash off…
(Freezing, I tell you. I won’t get in the Pacific until at least mid-August, but it didn’t stop the crazy girls.)

DSC_0562.jpg

Although some of us chose to play in the sand where it was warmer…
(Was she eating the sand?)

DSC_0601.jpg

And since we needed some more enough excitement, we took the kids to Disney for Madey’s birthday.

The inseparable Cheshire cats…
(Can we all say “joined at the hip” for the entire trip?)

DSC_0607.jpg

Took a spin on the teacups…

DSC_0614.jpg

Or got spun on the teacups?
(I was in this cup, blech. Spinning is not my forte.)

DSC_0625.jpg

Even Mav took his first Disney rides…
(I think he liked it!)

DSC_0633.jpg

All the kids were champs. ALL day. You see quite a lot of “melting down” going on at Disney – tired, over-excited and stimulated kids, but our crew was great and we got to do quite a bit of the park. And then it was time to go home – literally. DJ and the girls pulled out of our driveway to start the trek home maybe 45 minutes after we pulled in from Disney. Some of the girls were a little pouty on the way to our house, and I think Meesh might have been pinching Ella in this last shot to get her to smile…

DSC_0677.jpg

All in all, it was a lot of chaos, but OH so much fun. We should do it again…oh, wait we are! Next week!

DSC_0305.jpg

To be continued…

Crafty Tuesday

I’ve been on a mission to get my backlog of birthday presents completed.

Before we leave this Saturday.

Hmmm. Yes. Well, we will see how that works out for me as the week progresses.

I did get a bag done that I had promised a friend many, many moons ago. It has been sitting on my ironing board for oh…let’s just say…a few months. But, it is on the way – finally and (don’t fall off your chair, Vic!) it will be there by the end of the week. I seem to have this “out-of-sight-out-of-mind” problem. If it isn’t on top of the stack, or I’m not going to see the person the gift is for…it just doesn’t seem to get done.

So I made a project list. And now the list sits right next to my sewing machine, so I can focus up a little bit. We’ll see if it works.

Oh, and the bag…well, since Vic hasn’t seen it yet, we’ll have to wait for the big reveal until next week.

But, here is a birthday present we did get to deliver this weekend to our lovely soon-to-be Aunt JB!

crafty3.jpg

Not one, but two little burlap buckets.

crafty4.jpg

This was my first attempt at these buckets. I bought the maya*made pattern a long time ago and have been halfheartedly looking for some old coffee sacks to use. But, I finally ended up just using ordinary burlap material and lining it with a patterned canvas. They are a definite first try, but I think I’m going to like making them – they are fun and handy and I keep thinking of uses for them all over the house.

Addie is insistent that JB use her new buckets to organize her makeup. Makeup? Should I be concerned that that my 7 and almost 5-year olds are fascinated with makeup already? Especially since I rarely wear more than mascara and lip gloss?
Sigh. And so it begins, I guess…

I also completed a little dress for one of Em’s friends and one of my Brownie scouts.

crafty2.jpg

I have a backlog of pillowcases so I’m hopefully going to get caught up on my project list and actually make some dresses for our etsy shop. Again…we’ll see ’bout that.

I had this pair of matching pillowcases that I’ve been saving for something special and I found it! A friend took me up on my plea to donate to my sister’s walk. So I made matching dresses for her two sweet daughters. You all know how I feel about sisters…and I have a feeling that this pair is going to be aDOORable in their new dresses.

crafty1.jpg

There is still time if you would like to donate. Meesh is about 1/2 way there with only a few months before the walk, so any donation would be appreciated. And make sure to come back and let me know you donated so I can send you something!

Alright, I’m getting off the soapbox and I’ll save the rest of my goodies for next week. Do you have anything fun and crafty to share this week?

Happy 5th of July!

And a very happy birthday to my favorite younger sis! Remember when we used to tell you that the fireworks were for your birthday?

meesh & family at disney

I hope you got to see some fireworks for your birthday last night, Meesh. And wishing you the best year yet.

We love you and we’ll see you in a few days. (Wheee!)
