Dipy Week #18 ~ Smoke

dipy_18.jpg

When my fearless partner chose smoke as our theme this week I was thinking, “Oh fun! Good challenge!

And then…(yes, there is always an excuse) I kinda left it to the last minute. VERY last minute. As in – J. had to throw the girls in bed so I could run out and try to take some photos in the fading light. And then…I made J. make a fire because I wasn’t sure I even got a wisp of smoke in any of my candle shots. Finally I sent this one on to K., and then opened her fabulous shot!

How cool is her perfect curl of smoke? And now, with them side by side, I really, really like our dipy this week. I love how the purples play off one another and how her smoke looks like it is escaping from my candle. I really am pleased with it.

Make sure to stop over to Megan’s for other dipys this fine Thursday, too!

Dipy Week #16 – Mom

We decided this week to turn the cameras over to the kids and see what they could come up with for our theme of Mom.

M: Hey Emma would you like to use Mama’s camera and shoot some photos this afternoon?
E: Sure! What do you want me to take pictures of?
M: Um…how about Mom?
E: Okay. Where should you be?
M: Well, where would you like me? What do you want me to be doing in your picture?
E: Um…can you do a hula hoop?

Yeaahhh. So Kimberly has a gorgeous portrait of her (see her down there?) shot by Bryce…her FOUR year old. And I get a crazy photo of me putting my hips into it. But, that’s what you get when you give up control, I guess.

Dipy Week #15 ~ Stuck!

dipy_15.jpg

Ok. I admit this one (from me, at least!) was a bit of a stretch. I didn’t have a single idea all weekend for our theme and we have already done the theme friends, so we couldn’t even play along with Melody and Megan today. I told Kimberly, “Um, I am just stuck! Hey, let’s just throw stuck out there and see what happens.”

Well, what happened was Kimberly came up with a very clever, colorful and graphic photo clearly depicting a great stuck. Me? Well, I was running around a little like a madwoman, not even thinking of my beloved Thursday post, until Addie was trying to keep up with me yesterday and sneak through the bars of the gate in the courtyard.

Yes. Through the bars. She likes to slide through without opening the gate.

And then she called out, “Oh, Mama! I’m getting so big! I’m almost stuck!”

Stuck? Wait. Hold the gate! I’ll go get my camera.

So no pins or glue around here this week (although you’d think in our house there would be, right?), just my little girl getting too big and “almost stuck!”

Dipy Thursday – Week #11

Team Up Thursday - Dipy #11

Both of our girls are celebrating birthdays…tomorrow! Yes, we just realized that Em and Raya have the same birthday. Add it to the list of crazy coincidences between me and my partner-in-crime.

So we decided that grow would be a great theme for the week.  I’ll just apologize for putting my girl on top – but how cool that I’ve got Em’s top half and Kimberly’s got Raya’s sweet bottom! Oooh….that shot makes me long for before Em went and decided to grow all up and stuff.

Dipy Thursday – Week #10

Last week my partner-in-crime had a little secret to share (or, maybe a very BIG secret?!) and this week it is my turn. Kimberly chose Supper, as in The Last Supper – fittingly for this week, as our theme. Although out here in La-La land we usually refer to that last meal of the day as dinner. (Because all the stuff you eat while you watch TV isn’t a meal – so it doesn’t count calorie-wise, right??)

Anyhow, you say “supper,” I say “dinner.”  In our house if J. is away…it usually looks like breakfast. Not ordinarily as low-tech as just Cheerios like here, I try to throw some fruit in there, as well. And many times it is oatmeal, eggs or even pancakes. But any way you slice it, we LOVE breakfast for dinner around here.

Meanwhile, our wild child friend is serving her little cherubs yummies like this! I even see a veggie or two in there!

Dipy Thursday – Week #8

I don’t know if it is the time change or what, but I’m stumbling through this week just a bit. Having a few issues here and there and feeling a little brain dead. Yes, let’s blame the time change, shall we?

So Kimberly chose Grids/Squares this week. Again, seemed totally easy and do-able last week when she suggested it. Last week. Fast forward to Wednesday, the day I am to supposed to get her something. I was frantically roaming around outside trying to see something that would fit into our theme. I have hopscotch grids, patio tile grids, a bunch of flower shots (totally don’t fit into the Grid theme, but everything is so blooming and lovely right now I couldn’t resist) but nothing that really excited me.

And then while I was doing dishes, (in my freshly painted kitchen, thank you very much!) I just happened to look over and see the lovely sun streaming through my basket next to my sink making a magnificent shadow of…a grid of squares on my grid of tile!

Done and done. I do love how this challenge makes me see everyday objects through new eyes.

Now I’ve been trying for a very long time to figure out Kimberly’s. I’m thinking it is a screen door? Whatever it is…it is c-o-o-l! Pop over to her place to see what it is for sure. The rainbow effect is doubly awesome, and I’m thinking it might have been left by her little leprechaun helper yesterday – she is such an awesome Mom! I mean…er…awesome Mom for letting the little leprechaun into her house, of course.

Dipy Thursday – Week #7

Wow! We are on week 7 already? I should hardly be surprised as quickly as our days, weeks, months fly by around here lately.

But it is Team-Up Thursday time again and my turn to choose. I chose Friends. Thought I might be able to catch a few shots since we had Addie’s friend staying with us last week. I failed miserably on that front. But then I realized that I could just swing a camera around in any room in my house and be able to capture the sweetest image of friends.

dipy_7.jpg

And I figure most of you have been around here enough to know that I’m on the bottom and the deliciously dynamic other half of the duo, Kimberly, is on top.

Can you see the cool texture her photo has? I love that our shots are so similar and work well together – but they have just little glimpses of contrast. We both have two subjects, but she has boys, I have girls. Clearly chilly sweater-type weather and shot outdoors, but hers has definitely a darker, “boy” colored tone to it, and mine is like a rainbow exploded all over. Her guys are off in their own little world, my girls are looking directly at the camera. This is all really fascinating to me. And a very fun exercise even if I always leave it to the very last possible second. (Sorry K.!)
