More Sisterly Love ~ Best Shot Monday

I can’t stop photographing the two girls together lately. This is what? The tenth photo of the two of them in the past two weeks?

Maybe it is because I am missing my sister. Or maybe I feel compelled to document the love between the girls while I can, for I’m sure I’ll need to pull some of these photos out to remind us all of a simple time when they were just happy to be together.

I love happy “accidents.” When you think you know which shot is going to be your absolute favorite, and then as they are downloading the photos, one catches your eye. A shot that you thought was a “throw-away,” but it jumps out, and really speaks to you.

bsm.jpg

That was this one. Probably not technically the “best” shot I took all week, but the pure love you can feel radiating from the two of them – it literally makes my heart feel like it will explode when I stare at it. So therefore, it is my Best Shot this fine Monday.

Mountain Road ~ Best Shot Monday

I have some Easter shots to get up still, but this is one of my favorite photos of the weekend.

I took this after our egg hunt on Saturday, as the girls ran up the mountain road ahead to explore on their own. Watching them together like that stirs up all kinds of emotions in me. On one hand my heart breaks as they leave me behind, ready to be free, and off to do their own thing. I am also proud that they are such confident, secure girls that they know I am here, always watching and waiting for them to need me again. But mostly seeing the two of them makes me excited for all of the fun adventures they are going to find together someday.

Hoppin’ Down the Bunny Trail ~ BSM

Can you believe today is St. Patrick’s Day and Easter is in six days?

It has totally snuck up on me this year. I just dug our Easter decorations out last week. The girls were ecstatic to go through the baskets and play with the old plastic eggs. And then, I pulled the Rabbit out.

Two, maybe three, years ago now my mom sent Emma this little Easter bunny in a raincoat with an umbrella and it sings, “Singin’ In The Rain” (loudly) when you push its’ paw. Emma, of course, fell in love with it at first sight. It was a hit last year as well, but Addie wasn’t able to operate it on her own, so she relied on us to push the paw for her.

But she knows how to do it “all by myself” this year. It has been serenading us since I unwrapped it.

Find out what has everyone else “singing” this fine Monday morning over at Mother May I.

Whole Family ~ Best Shot Monday

If I wasn’t so lazy I would go find the photo that J. and I had taken on Waimea Bay ten years ago when we first visited Hawaii. I really wanted to “re-create” the photo, with the sun setting, in the same spot with our “whole family”  – as Em calls us.

So I’m clearly not taking these photos today, my bro-in-law, Jeff took them (thanks, Jeff!).

This is the typical shot of the four of us…

But Jeff managed to get a good one for me and today’s Best Shot Monday.

That first photo from ten years ago was fun – but I am so in love with this one and our “whole” little family.

I’m working on the other vacation photos and stories. I promise, they are on their way.

But make sure to stop over to Mother May I for other great photos this fine President’s Day.

The Worrisome Park? ~ Best Shot Monday

We are at a beautiful, sunny park running all of our “ya-yas” out. So what could this girl possibly be so worried about?

She is going to get worry lines on her forehead at the ripe old age of 2 if this furrowing of the eyebrows continues…

This one is my favorite and my Best Shot for this fine Monday.

It is fine, of course, because J. comes home today – Hallelujah!

And what could make this week even better? We are headed to Hawaii for the ProBowl and a little R&R on Wednesday. It’s a rough life, I know. I haven’t said anything about our impending vacation because I have been, ah…burned, a few times on some of the other scheduled trips. But we are going. For sure. We leave this Wednesday and we’ll return the day after Valentine’s Day. And my laptop is taking a trip to the genius bar for a little TLC, so it will not be accompanying me. I will maybe hop on J.’s laptop for a quick post here and there…but I may not. We’ll just have to see how all of those the mai tais affect me.

Make sure to stop in for other BSMs over at Tracey’s though! Next week, too…even if I can’t tear myself away from the beach to post one, there will be some great ones, I’m sure!

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow~Best Shot Monday

Remember our little discussion nearly a year ago now…what to do with Ad’s hair? I held out as long as I could. I really did listen when people told me “don’t cut her hair, it is beautiful, she’ll lose all her curls!”

But after fighting for the past three weeks with a crabby 2-year old and clearly not winning the battle, I mean…look at the dread-locked, baby mullet, hairdo she had going on –

ad_hair.jpg

Detangler wasn’t working any more, and the back was getting too long and heavy, it was actually pulling her curls out! And it just looked really frightful.

So, we took Ad for her first haircut on Saturday. I was going to pick this photo for my BSM because I love the expression so much.

ad_haircut.jpg

She actually did really, really well. Of course she is just sitting there thinking, “Hurry up already lady. Where is my lollipop? Cuz, I was told…that I could have a lollipop.”

And I took a bunch of pictures and with every snip of the scissors was thinking, “OH MY GOD! I said to trim it up – you just cut like 3 inches off!”

But when it was all said and done, Addie was happy because she got a lolly and a balloon and Mommy was happy because if anything she has even more curls now, and her hair just looks SO.MUCH.BETTER.

ad_newhair.jpg

Of course she is crabby for other reasons now. Like…um, she is 2. And she has a runny nose again. And…she is 2!

I tried desperately to get a good shot of her sporting the new hairdo but it just wasn’t happening today. But I like this photo a lot, so it will be my BSM for today.

Off and Running ~ Best Shot Monday

How can I feel so harried and hectic when it is only 7 days into the new year?

We are all off and running. J. is traveling this week already, I’m working on about 4 work projects, Em is back to school and starting a new dance school, and Ad is…well, Ad is just along for the ride.

em_footprints.jpg

Don’t forget to run over to Tracey’s to see the other Best Shot Mondays, today.

I know, I owe a lot of photos, thank yous, phone calls, and emails to everyone. I’m really, really working on it. I have lots of fun stories, and the minute I stop running, I’ll try to tackle it all. I promise.

————————-

On a little personal note – just want to send a very Happy Birthday to my Aunt Vicki. Hope you are having a great day!

Have a great week, everyone.

Christmas Cheer ~ Best Shot Monday

I finally have it. After a packed and productive weekend, I am the proud owner of both a little bit of Christmas spirit and a much shorter to-do list. And it feels good.

We put up not one, but two Christmas trees on Saturday. It was so fun with the girls this year. I’ve said it a hundred times once or twice before, and I’ll say it again…the girls are at the BEST age right now. They are still excited about family time and truly do want to be helpful. I know some day they will not be so anxious to help, and I’ll be left decorating by myself, so I am just eating it up while I can.

Testing out the lights. She kept saying “Are they hot, Mama?”

ad_cmastree.jpg

Em was an ornament-hanging pro by the end of the night. Very serious about the task and I didn’t even have to go back and re-arrange after her. Well…not too much.

em_tree.jpg

Every ornament was paid proper respect and excitement. Ad couldn’t believe this one had her name on it!

ad_oooh.jpg

addie_ball.jpg

And Em loves every ornament from when she was a “baby.” She kept asking, “Was this one mine when I was a tiny baby?”

em_bsm.jpg

So our house is completely decorated. It looks amazing. J and I got a ton of shopping done on Friday. And I also finished my Christmas cards on Saturday (also with a little bit of help from my Christmas elf, Em!).

Not that I don’t have a bunch of stuff to do still, but what a difference a weekend makes. I think I’ll just go turn out the lights and enjoy the fire and the pretty tree.

I’m making this one my Best Shot Monday. The soft glow of Christmas is upon us.
