Crafty Tuesday

I just took a break from sewing the buttons on my little gift card purses so I could pop in here for a bit of Crafty Tuesday. I have some last little bits to finish on the purses (they really are coming…this week, Aunt Laura!) and I snapped some photos as I was putting a few together so I can throw a little tutorial up for anyone who might need to put a few of these together for Christmas cards. I’ll shoot for getting that up for CT next week, so stay tuned.

We do have some other gifts today. My friend and I wanted to give all of our fantastic scone bakers and coffee sellers (from our First Friday Coffee fundraiser at school) a little something and we decided to treat them to a cup of coffee. So I rustled up some coffee cozys and we are going to put a Sbux gift card in each of them.

I used up a bunch of sweater scraps that I had from gifts last year and of course brought back my very favorite chalkboard fabric! I didn’t really embellish them besides the chalkboard fabric and a few of the pieces were just a little bit short so I ended up making a wrap with a button to keep it fastened around the cup. It works just fine and also used up some of my hair elastics that break whenever I try to put too much hair into them.

And for some sweet tasting gifts. Addie and I made these little mini pies in jars for Thanksgiving! We brought some over to our neighbors for dessert.

DSC_0018

J. and I just put two in the oven the other night to warm the apple goodness all up and in five minutes, yum….our very own personal little pies.

DSC_0017

I especially like that it is just enough pie to make you feel like you had something, but not too much…good portion control. Although in hindsight we should have spent more time looking for the shorter jars, ours were skinny and tall and kind of hard to get the crust down to the bottom. But I made little tags for the tops and tied a little twine around it and good to go as cute little gifts!

Filing that away as good little gifts to give…or keep.

I also need to find a way to file these little leaves away and keep them. We started a tradition this year by writing three things we are thankful for on these leaves we sort of freehand cut, about five minutes before dinner. Then the girls took turns reading them out loud (you can watch it here if you really want to see/hear them!). I am thinking I need to get a “Thankful” book, one that we can add to each year. For now the leaves are spread out on our dining room table, along with all the other projects we have brewing.

Do you all have some Thanksgiving goodies to share, or have you already left November in the dust and are on to Christmas, glorious Christmas crafts?!

Oh…Vacation Is Over Already?

Hmmm…is it wrong to be terribly excited that the children go back to school tomorrow??

Not that we haven’t had a lovely week together, but, really…enough is enough. I just had the realization tonight that December is THIS week, as in just a few more days from now. I was under the serious delusion that I had another week in here before December hit. And I was feeling oh so cocky with my Christmas cards done and shopping started. Ack.

So let’s see, vacation, yes. Well, do you notice anything?

DSC_0098

Yes. We had to visit Dr. N. again. Apparently, our little Gracie girl is a bit scared to wiggle her dumb teeth so that they will fall out of her head on their own volition. Soooo…they were yanked out. A nice start to the vacation, no?

Then we decided this little turkey was a bit gamey…

DSC_0003

…so we cooked our own turkey dinner. J. found this recipe and it will be how we cook ALL of our turkeys from now on. It was fast and most delicious. It smelled so amazing while it was cooking it was hard to wait til it was fully cooked to dig into it. And he made some of these sweet potato/marshmallow biscuits. They were like little scone desserts – also delicious, and will be added to our family repertoire.

We decided that we truly had to go to Disney on Friday to work off our turkey dinner, and at the same time avoid all Black Friday craziness. Hey, look! That is me in a photo…see, I do exist – I was there!

DSC_0156

And the two hams, how many different versions of this photo can I get of these two goofs?

DSC_0094

It is Christmas time at Disney which inspired us to start putting our Christmas decor up today as well.

DSC_0178

But even as fun as our week was – all good things must come to an end. And this Mama really needs to get back into our routine and get some projects crossed off of our list. Especially since I have even fewer days now than I thought I had this morning.

Happy last few days of November. The girls and I are sending you wishes for a peaceful bit of the Christmas season!

Lovely Saturday For Some Football.

I just need to blog one post about the game…and then I’m done. Non-Michigan fans feel free to skip this one, but you’ll miss some cute pics and vids of the girls. (Of course that is the real reason I need to post about today!)

————————————

Today was the first Saturday of the football season that we were able to concentrate on football (REAL football) and not anxiously watch scores from the sidelines of a soccer field. And it wasn’t one Saturday too soon either since today was the day of THE game. The one team that Michigan fans H-A-T-E came into the Big House looking for an eighth straight win against us. The last time we beat Ohio State, Emma was a mere 7 months old. Yes, it was a long time coming for Michigan fans.

In preparation for the game, Daddy taught the girls the “Oh How I HATE Ohio State” song and the first time he said it both of the girls looked at me wide-eyed and said, “Aww! Mama! Daddy said the ‘H’ word!”  Daddy reassured them that he would allow the use of the “H” word whenever referring to Ohio State. He then proceeded to tell them that if they ever thought about going to Ohio State, he would disown them. Emma laughed but later anxiously said to me, “Mama? Daddy wasn’t kidding when he said we can’t go to Ohio State, was he?”

Um…no, Em. He most certainly was not.

Addie might be a few years away from college, but she understood it all perfectly and practiced her spelling in the courtyard as well.

We moved our usual Bagel Saturday date with our friend Michigan Mike from the bagel shop to our house for today.

photo(4)

If you didn’t have the proper attire on…you were not allowed in the house. We realized after the first dreadful drive that the Elf was not in the appropriate colors, so we quickly fixed that.

Even poor Tiger, who is a true California cat through and through, (she has never stepped foot, er…paw, into the state of Michigan!) was our stand-by wolverine mascot for the day. Roar…

And Daddy got his workout “popcorning” Addie after every Michigan score. Em got a joint-popcorn from Mama and Daddy since she is way too big to throw around any more. Of course, I was popcorning…so no real photos of that, but she was not left out, don’t worry!

It was an incredibly fun way to spend the day and almost made up for not being in Ann Arbor to see it all in person. Well done, Blue.

A thankful Thanksgiving Eve.

On this eve of Thanksgiving I have quite a list of “Thankfuls:”

  • I’m thankful to wake up each and every day next to the man I love.
  • I’m thankful to have the very best job of “Mommy” to two amazing girls.
  • I’m thankful for our families (all of you – no matter where you are tomorrow) and their continued health.
  • I’m thankful to have a house of “all our own” this year to celebrate Thanksgiving in.
  • I’m thankful for the food that will be on our table tomorrow, especially this, and this, and this!
  • I’m thankful to not have to go anywhere on Black Friday – except for maybe Disneyland.
  • I’m thankful my Christmas cards are completed and on my dining room table.
  • I’m thankful that Elfette (formerly known as Elfie) returns to our house tomorrow night.
  • I’m thankful for each sunrise and sunset – each new day I get to spend on this Earth.

Sunset

I hope you all have a very thankful Thanksgiving tomorrow and are feeling as blessed as we are.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Crafty Tuesday

My crafting has become a bit of a joke over here. I’m sorry to let you down yet again this week. I have been sewing away on the little purses and even took some photos thinking I might do a little tutorial for you – but it has not all been downloaded, edited, translated and decoded into a pretty little tutorial as of yet. Don’t give up hope on me…I might just surprise you with my extra time this week!

The girls are home this week and if you are a FB friend you already know how we spent day one of our vacation…painting ceilings and getting a few teeth (Em’s) yanked. Not. Crafting. In other words.

And I didn’t get a great photo of the ceiling because I finished as J. was walking in the door and it was already very, very dark. (Cursed daylight savings.) Now, I don’t generally like to toot my own horn, but….beep, beep. Our ceiling looks beautiful, if I do say so myself. I had some painter tape mishaps and need to touch up tomorrow, but behold, a shiny, clean, white ceiling and…no hole!

photo(2)-2

I’ll get a better pic in the daylight tomorrow. And other than ceilings and teeth, we have just been desperately trying to wrap up the ‘ol soccer seasons. We succeeded with Addie’s, complete with party.

DSC_0108

And are so, so close with Em. Rain cancelled our second playoff game on Sunday, but we had a end-of-regular season party anyhow. More cupcakes.

DSC_0167

And now we return to our regularly scheduled program of trying to get some Christmas gifts made! Please share what you are up to. Desperately searching inspiration over here. (Ah, who am I kidding…we have plenty of inspiration, just need a few more hours in the day!)

Crafty Tuesday

Nope. Very little to share, I’m afraid. I have, however, lugged all of my sewing room upstairs for Addie’s old room is now my new sewing room. The bunkbeds and sharing a room seems to be sticking and the girls are still going strong on the roommate thing, so the other room is going to be a terrific place to leave my sewing all out. And it is ready…just not much crafty going on…yet.

I have been mending, fixing holes in jeans, putting in new elastic in pants, darning ballet sweaters, taking in choir robes, and trying to finish up some of those little gift card wallets. (They are coming, Aunt Laura – I promise!) And now those little things are almost done, hopefully I can start on some Christmas gifts.

I did, however, (as I might have mentioned here, or over on Facebook, or at least 20 times to different friends over the course of today) finish my Christmas cards! I’ll give you a sneak peek…I don’t think it’ll give too much away. This is one of the shots from the photo shoot over the weekend.

DSC_0054

I love those two. They helped me make pumpkin whoopie pies to take to our neighborhood block party on Sunday.

DSC_0078

I forgot to take a photo of the finished product! But the recipe came from over here. They were good, but with all things I seem to make, I’ll do a few things differently the next go-round.

Addie is loving the missing cabinet, as is her Mama. Now she can sit right up on the counter while helping bake.

DSC_0080

And the light. The beautiful, beautiful light we now get.

DSC_0081

I’m still going back and forth on the paint colors for the cabinets. I’m going to have my design posse over for coffee after Thanksgiving and hopefully have one of the old cabinet doors painted with some examples so we can make a final decision. That is our Christmas vacation project. But thanks so much for all of the paint advice and opinions!

Tomorrow I’m going to paint up the ceiling. Our gaping hole the cabinet left is filled in, spackled and sanded. It is getting there. Just ever so slowly.

Tell me are you getting some crafting on lately? Christmas gifts or house projects?

Holiday Spirit.

All of that Christmas music around here has paid off.

I just placed our Christmas card order.

There will be no last minute scrambling. There will be no late night assembling of Christmas cards (I know J. is heartbroken over that one!). It might not be my most creative card, but it is simplicity at its finest which is what I’m trying for this year. I really want to try to simplify the holiday craziness – so that is my goal for the next month and a half.

Who is with me?

All Christmas Music…All The Time.

Like it or not, Christmas music is here. I personally LOVE me some Christmas music, although I usually refrain until after Thanksgiving before breaking out every version of “Angels We Have Heard on High” (still searching for a really good one!). But between the girls working on a Christmas piano duet, Emma on a mission to learn her entire Christmas book by Thanksgiving (and is going to succeed, I think!), and the rehearsals for the Christmas Eve pageant – our house is alive with the Christmas tunes. Needless to say we are already dreaming of white Christmases around here.

And then I was hunting for some photos and videos for Aunt JB this week and ran across this little gem…

Even if you are not a fan of Christmas music, our lil’ Emma Grace (from back when she was only 3!) might just change your mind.

“Clap for us, Mommy!”

It all just goes by too quickly. *Sigh*
