Crafty Tuesday

I owe so much of my “craftiness” to my mom. I think I inherited some of her artistic genes and the rest I absorbed through osmosis by just growing up around her. Although the cake decorating does still allude me. I must have been doing too much of the tasting of the frosting – and not enough observing because I still cannot manage to decorate a decent cake.

But flowers, and putting together bouquets – that I do have “down.”  My mom and I did the flowers for my wedding, my sister’s wedding, my brother’s wedding…and a whole bunch of other ones. Plus, I love flowers, and a chance to play with them? Yeah, that is really fun for me. When I used to work in San Francisco we used to visit the flower mart every few weeks and I’ve always loved having fresh flowers in the house.

Last week I got to visit the LA flower mart. Holy flowers, Batman! It was overwhelming, to say the least. But we found a lot of roses for cheap and put together some simple, elegant bouquets for Debby and the girls and boutineers for the guys. (This is the last of the wedding photos, I promise!)

debby's bouquet

For Debby’s bouquet we just used 2 dozen cream colored roses and wrapped them up with ribbon. The roses were (are!) stunning with just a touch of pink to them. They still look amazing on my dining room table!

And for the guys and the girl’s bouquets we used yellow roses with a little bit of baby’s breath. Did I mention that I really loved doing the flowers? Hmmm…maybe if this gig I have going on doesn’t work out, I could adopt wedding florist as a new career.

And for my next crafty endeavor…I will be attempting to make the girls’ Halloween costumes. We visited the fabric store today and it was so fun to watch Em and Ad – they were like kids in a candy store. Of course they picked out the most expensive, silkiest, glittery-est fabric for their costumes. Between the time I will be spending making these costumes, and the extravagant wishes of my “Project Runway wannabe” girls, these are going to be some seriously expensive costumes. So help me, they had just better turn out.

Anyone else have some craftiness to share today?

Playtime! ~ Theme Thursday

It’s playtime over at Stacy’s for Theme Thursday today. So…

Are you ready for some football??

Emma came in over the weekend and asked if anyone wanted to play football. That was music to her Daddy’s ears, I think. He hopped up and off they went out into the yard.

Laces out!

We need a little work on the throwing and catching, but she definitely has the running and kicking down. Good thing she is going to be a soccer star.

That's a touchdown!

Addie found other stuff to play with…

Until the footballers took a break for a little swinging…

Better than a swing

And then they pondered how fun it is to have Daddy home for playtime.

Bottle It UP ~ Best Shot Monday

We took a trip to J.’s office on Friday for a little dinner and fun. While we were there, the girls cleaned out Daddy’s change drawer and he had a few of these old juice bottles floating around, that they managed to abscond with as well.

On our way home I hear Em say to Addie –
E: Addie! Just open up the top, like this…
A: Yeah?
E: Then laugh into the bottle.
E: And then quick put the cover on the jar so you can trap your laughs inside the bottle!

You just "catch" your laughs like this

And Addie obliges. Of course.
Ha Ha Ha...bottled up
I was trying to get these shots from the front seat without them knowing – so they are not perfect. But when I look at them, I love the idea of bottling up those laughs for someday down the road when I really need to hear them again.

Find out what has everyone else giggling over at Tracey’s today.

Blissfully Quiet Friday Afternoon

I think I did the impossible and wore the girls out enough to make them (gasp!) take a nap today. It is blissfully quiet around here at the moment. Addie didn’t even protest when I was marching her upstairs to the impending doom a nap usually signifies. She did tell me (a little too whiningly) “but I don’t think I am tired for a nap!”

Right before she rolled over and put her head down. An hour and a half ago.

So how did I do it, you ask?

The beach. Eight glorious hours at the beach yesterday.

Our friends are renting a house on the beach, so we crashed in on them for the entire day.

The girls dug a hole to China –

Tried to hide from the camera –
No more photos, Mama!

And just contemplated life –
Taking a moment

Now if Mommy could just learn to reapply sunscreen on herself as often as she does the girls. I have some weird little sunburnt “patches” and sunburnt lips. Yeah, ouch! But, oh so worth it.

Addie was not having her photo taken, though. And finally Emma asked if she could take a picture because “Addie looks so cute all there by you, Mama!”

How we knew it was time to end the fun –
Just about done with the beach

All tuckered out.

We are on recovery mode from the busy week this entire weekend. We’ll see you on Monday.

Toes Lineup ~ Best Shot Monday

One of my faves from the hundreds of photos I have been going through this past weekend. Our vacation is already a fading memory, but thankfully we have photos to remember moments like this.

The girls are all up on the top bunk, with just their toes sticking out. What is better than one set of sweet toes? Four sets!

Make sure to stop over to Tracey’s to see everyone else’s sweet memories today.

We’re Outta Here…

Well, technically the girls and I are not leaving until Sunday morning, but the ‘ol Mac is taking a bit of a trip, too. It is going to go spend four lovely days and nights at the luxurious Genius Bar and get a little cosmetic surgery. A bit of the “edge” around my laptop has chipped off and apparently they need a few days, but can put a new top on for me.

And I figured since I had already planned on leaving my laptop behind when we went on the cruise, now was a good time for it to be in the shop, and J. has so kindly agreed to pick it up and return it to safety for me.

Speaking of J, we have had him home the past two days and it has been busy but very fun.

He took a ton of photos and videos of the girls’ last two days of swim class. The video of Em jumping off the diving board and swimming to the side like she has been doing this sort of thing all her life just amazes me every time I watch it. I was there, but I still can’t believe it! I will definitely not get those videos edited and up tonight, so they will have to wait until we get back.

But here are some of my favorite photos from the past few days…

Do you think she loves the pool?

I LOVE SWIMMING!

Her first jump off the board.

And Addie took a turn as well, although she was clearly not as excited as Em.

We also hung out and played in the fountain at the Paseo for awhile. The girls were a little unsure about the spouting water for a few minutes seconds…

But it didn’t take too long before the call of the water got to them.

All this fun, I probably should have been packing and preparing – but I guess that is what tomorrow is for, right?

Anyhow, I have a few posts set up so you won’t miss us too much, but don’t expect too much until next weekend. We shall return with many photos (I got a 16G compact flash today, so I can take even more!) and stories for you. Have a great week!
