A Hot Game of Zingo ~ Wordless Wednesday

Bingo with a Zingo

Okay, I just can’t let this one go Wordless.

I mean look at Puppy Dog Alarm Clock’s sad and forlorn eyes. He wants to just smack that smug smile off of Care Bear’s face. Dumb bear, all uppity and gloating because it is winning.

Like this photo, from a few months ago, this pic just makes me laugh out loud. It also reminds me that the girls are at such an amazing stage. They spend hours together and come up with the most involved and creative play, it is really something special to watch.

This game – Zingo – is their favorite board game to play right now. Addie got it from my friend Kimmer and she just adores it! It is a great game for 3-4 year olds. And truth be told, it is one of my favorites to play with them, too. It is a refreshing change from Candyland, and I like that Addie has just as good a chance to win as anyone. So it is fair and fun!

My favorite thing they play though is “Mommy/Honey.” (Yes, that is what they call it.) Usually Addie is the “mommy” and Em is the “honey (little girl)” and they just play “house” for hours. I really need to video/tape some of the conversations they have, because they are wet-your-pants funny. And the funniest part is that Ad sounds EXACTLY like me in some of the things she says.

Well, most of the time it is funny.

The Design Process

This is for those in my family who really still aren’t sure what it is I do.
(For those of you not in the family, and might truly not know -I’m a graphic/web designer.)

J. found this and I have to say it is spot on. Exactly what my day looks like when I’m “working,” and so funny, too.

Little bit of coffee, little bit more…too much snack food and still wondering why you haven’t updated your blogs! (So get to it, I need some inspiration here, people.) And I especially like #15 – “waiting for feedback”…with the wee martini glasses.

Hee.

Recipe for a Good Day

We just stumbled upon a good recipe that I thought you all might like. Here is what you need to have a good day…

1 – all-day, good hard rain
1 – fun play/coffee date with friends who don’t care if your house is clean
1 – semi-clean, cozy house
(at least clean to the point that you don’t feel compelled to get up and be doing something!)
2 – gorgeous girls happily playing in the playroom for hours on end
(can substitute the girls for boys here)
2 – cups of hot cocoa with whipped cream
1 – hot latte
1 – afternoon movie in the living room
(popcorn optional, but mandatory in our house!)
1 – dinner bubbling away in the oven

Top it off with it being Friday and it is the perfect recipe for a good GREAT day!

Enjoy!

Fun Sunday Morning

Here’s a tip for you.

Don’t figure that just because the water in the clogged toilet went down last night after you plunged away, that the “clog” was indeed gone.

Woke up this morning to a lovely 3 inches of water that had “drained” over the floor in the back half of our house, instead of down the drain, like it was supposed to.

Mmmm…nice. Ankle deep water before I’ve even had coffee.

The plumber is here now, so hopefully all will be fixed shortly.

And of course, to add insult to injury, all of our floors were nice and clean Friday night. After they get scrubbed again this afternoon, it will be the most action these floors have seen in months.

I’m Gonna Miss This?

If you haven’t heard the song, You’re Gonna Miss This you should really go listen to it now.

Go ahead, I’ll wait. Actually maybe I had better go with you and listen to it again, too.

Because I do know that I am going to miss this…

Relaxing

and this too…

But the other “adventures” in parenting that made up today?

  • The running and screaming through the house?
  • The trail of toys from one end of the house to the other, when didn’t I just pick them all up one hour ago?
  • The five straight hours of refereeing, including repeating myself about 6 times, “Stop it…before someone gets hurt!” (Someone did get hurt before I got to the 7th time!)
  • The “selective hearing” when I know that they had to have heard it at least once when I’ve asked 24 straight times?

I don’t know. You are going to have a hard time convincing me that I’m going to miss that!
We’ll see.

Still here….

Yes, we are still here and I *think* everyone is on the mend, now. Em contracted the lovely stomach flu on Wednesday night and was out of school for the past two days. Which I must say threw a bit of a damper on my grand plans for getting a bunch of stuff done after being MIA for a few days myself. I felt so very on top of everything last week, and then along comes a teeny, tiny, minor little setback, like not being able to hold my head up for one day, and suddenly my world feels all out of whack.

Boom. Just like that.

But, who isn’t busy? Who doesn’t have a million things going on right now? So I will quit complaining now.

At any rate, we have had dance recitals and two school Christmas programs. So, I have videos! And photos! And I also bear glad tidings of the first perfect report card! It is all here. Somewhere. Scattered in the stack of mail. Spread out from one computer to another. Stuck on a memory card or three.

It will all get done. Deep breaths.

—————————————-

(Nana and Papa – you will be pleased to note that Addie upheld the fine tradition of her mother and every time she saw us point the camera at her during tonight’s school Christmas program she waved like crazy. I will get the video, and except for the curly hair, you’d swear it was me!)

Today, by the numbers

10 = the number of times I have used the threat “Santa just made a check by your name” in the last 12 hours.

9 = the number of meltdown temper tantrums which directly correlates to the number of threats.  (See #10 above.)

8 = the number of loads of laundry I have washed, dried, folded and put away and thought about folding and putting away.

7 = the number of outfits between two little girls. (Gee, I guess that explains #8 above, right?)

6 = the number of stamps I had to peel off and reposition on little red envelopes. (Addie was helping me label, stamp and send our Christmas cards out.)

5 = the number of different pairs of tights that have been donned on between two little girls.

4 = the number of hours spent running between my project on the computer and helping Em with her homework.

3 = the number of stores we visited trying to find a little white button-up blouse for Em. (Do they not sell cute little white blouses any longer? We went with a black turtleneck instead.)

2 = the number of “major events” attended this evening. (One dance recital and one school Christmas program.)

1 = the number of times I got sick today. (A vast improvement over yesterday’s bout with the ‘ol stomach flu, trust me!)

The best thing about today…is it is almost over.

Crammin’ it in ~ Best Shot Monday

Our weekend started off with a lovely Saturday bagel date. We fueled up our tummies with bagels and our minds with all of the day’s news.

what is in the news?

And then? Well…I’m not really sure where the rest of the weekend went.

I guess it could have been lost somewhere along the way while we:
-Did some Christmas and birthday shopping.
-Grabbed some party supplies for Em’s soccer party.
-Bought our Christmas tree.
-Did a little real “work.”
-Cleaned the house up for the imminent party.
-Printed and hung some photos on the wall that has been pretty much bare for 2 years.
-Addressed and sent 75+ Christmas cards.
-And then decorated the other Christmas tree.

helping...

And that was the first half of the weekend.

Today, we managed to:
-Clean the house again (How – in less than 24 hours, how could it possibly get messy again?)
-Sing at church (well, Em and the Gospel cherubs sang – I just helped with the robing and de-robing)
-Celebrate our little friend’s 3rd birthday (complete with a bouncehouse!)
-And throw an end of the season party for the WonderGirls at our house. (Little hint – don’t even bother to clean your house – and certainly not twice! – when you are going have 11 kids running through your house with pizza and cupcakes!)

Exhausted. And other than the two photos here, I hardly took any photos.

But, J. took a bunch at the party for me and got this one which is my absolute favorite. The girls, giddy after some chocolate cupcakes, showing off their trophies.  So it is a J.’s Best Shot Monday today.

Swing Choreography

Em has become quite the master of the swing. Whenever we make it to the park she wants to try to swing as high as she can and “touch the sky.”

Unfortunately, Addie wants to do whatever her big sister is doing. But Mama doesn’t feel good about pushing her “higher.” Yesterday my resistance led to this…

Swing meltdown
She was not happy. Although, yesterday was one of those rough days – it didn’t really matter what the little thing was, it was going to set her off.

Em, trying to be a good big sister was concerned…

Watchful eye
And took it upon herself to try to “teach” Ad how to get herself higher by pumping her legs.

“You bend your legs back…”

Back and...
And then push them forward…

...forth
You got it!

You got it!
(Not really.) But it was a very sweet effort, Em. Better than Mommy, who just stood by taking photos.

On the plus side, Meltdown Sally ended up in bed at 6:30pm and slept through til 7am this morning. Me thinks she may have been a wee bit tired. And today proved to be a MUCH better day.
