Now, I totally have “Just a small town girl…” stuck in my head. Thanks, Kimberly!
And although our theme this week was Journey, it could have just as easy been inspirational reminders. My shot is of my fortune from dinner the other night. I think the universe is trying to tell me something.
What is this? A BOY on BarelyControlledChaos? Make that two. Seems weird to see little boys on our usually very girl-riddled blog. It was Kimberly’s turn to pick and she suggested An Unfamiliar Face for our theme today. She said, “It wouldn’t even have to be the face of a stranger, just a photo of someone who doesn’t usually appear on your blog.”
So my little monkey on the right certainly isn’t the face of a stranger in our house (he is Henry – Addie’s BFF EJ’s little brother) and on any given morning he can be found hanging around on our swing in the front yard. But I do think this is his first appearance on our blog.
So enjoy the unfamiliar faces today – tomorrow I’m sure we will return to our regularly scheduled girls!
Although our temps are not really as chilly as Kimberly’s here, I know it is starting to get cold in California when my slippers join me regularly for our morning cup of coffee. Still…our cold is pretty nice.

I know I totally cheated, but our original theme was Wonder…and I didn’t get anything I liked, and then I saw Kimberly’s and it fit with one of my favorite shots of Em of the wedding. So we did a little switch-hitting and I used a photo from the wedding and we did Contemplate instead. I often wish I could know what goes on inside that pretty little head of hers.
Cool, fall-like temperatures? Well, today was the coolest it has been all week, and I think it was a balmy 92 degrees. Crisp, red and orange-hued leaves? Um…nope, we don’t have any of those here yet either.
But it sure does feel like autumn around here. The kids are back to school, it is football season, and all things pumpkin are back in the stores and coffee shops. (Mmmm…why do you mock me pumpkin scones?) Autumn is by far my favorite season. And around here it also means that avocados, lemons and even persimmons are almost ready for picking.
Plus, we won’t have to do any raking of lovely leaves like Kimberly’s for at least a few more months around here. It is a win-win for everyone.
We are going small this week. I have been staring at Kimberly’s (on top) for an hour now. I’m just not sure how she did it or what it is…but it is brilliant. Hop over to see what it is over at her place.
I’ve also been staring at these small little toys all over our house lately. They are called Squinkies and the girls are obsessed with them. At first I was not a fan…but they are very small, and don’t take up hardly any space. And so far they have been keeping pretty good control of them, so I haven’t had to throw any away. (Oh, yes I am that mom. If they don’t get picked up, no telling where they will end up.)
I’m hoping the mesmerizing bokeh in Kimberly’s shot will make you forget that we kinda didn’t make it in time for last week’s Team-Up Thursday. We did have it done…but life just got in the way. So I give you Selective Focus for today.
Kimberly’s half today has signs that summer is coming to an END. And this week we had signs of the END of a long day. And our END to a what seemed like a very short summer.
I guess all good things must END, right? On to the next good thing…
