It was because Em wore her lucky Cubbies shirt, wasn’t it?
Maybe not, but still…they clinched! Way to go, Cubs!
It’s playtime over at Stacy’s for Theme Thursday today. So…
Are you ready for some football??
Emma came in over the weekend and asked if anyone wanted to play football. That was music to her Daddy’s ears, I think. He hopped up and off they went out into the yard.
We need a little work on the throwing and catching, but she definitely has the running and kicking down. Good thing she is going to be a soccer star.
Addie found other stuff to play with…
Until the footballers took a break for a little swinging…
And then they pondered how fun it is to have Daddy home for playtime.
Check out more playtime over at Stacy’s.
So I cheated a little bit when I told you that I promised to show something last week if you popped over to Kimmer’s to wish her a Happy Birthday…I actually already had two birthday cards on “standby” and ready for this week. So I knew I could make that promise in good faith. I think that they should have arrived to their destinations by now – so here are a few more birthday cards…yep, same envelopes that I’ve been stuck on for months now.
First one for Kimmer – I found this cool stamp that I didn’t even know I had. (Um, a bit too much craft stuff, perhaps?) The photo is a little blurry but it reads “Of all the gifts life could send – the best is knowing you’re my friend!” (Do you like the purple/red combo, Kimmer? Hee.)
And the second one for my brother (Happy Birthday, Ken!) whose birthday was over the weekend as well. Used the oldie-but-goodie “Happy Bird-day” stamps for it. I totally love the birds.
Apparently a lot of you were more than happy to let my baking be classified as “crafty.”
Whew! Thank goodness – because we seem to be doing a lot more baking than scrapping around here lately. And thanks for the walnuts in the freezer tip…I keep my choco chips in there, when I can keep them in the house, I will definitely remember to do that with my walnuts as soon as I restock them as well.
So what’s cooking or crafting at your house this week?
I almost didn’t post this…thought it might be a little bit too risque for our “family-friendly” blog. But then every time I look at it, I crack up a little bit harder. So it is getting posted.
I promise you this photo was not staged in any way. This is honest-to-goodness, the scene I found after Emma was supposed to be “resting” in her room last week.
When I took the photo I was laughing and wondering what exactly is going on with the two bears up there? (On top of the crate turned on its side)
As I cropped it tonight, I saw the…ahem…dogs? Over there? To the right of the bed. I’m pretty sure that should be R-rated, at the very least.
And then J. commented that Chicken Little over on the left looks like quite the “perv” watching all the bear action.
Certainly wasn’t a lot of “resting” going on up there.
All summer long. She has been trying so hard to master the monkey bars.
Hand over hand…
How many more bars do I have?
I can do it…I can do it…
And finally. Last week, she made it across without any help from Mommy.
How could this not be my Best Shot of the week?
You did it, kiddo. I knew those long, monkey arms and legs would come in handy.
Check out some other big achievements today at Tracey’s.
…you can find me in front of the TV for the next two weeks.
I so LOVE the summer Olympics. Everything about them. Yesterday I watched fencing. It doesn’t matter what is on, I’ll watch it. But, right now I’m settling in to watch my favorite events…the swimming.
Go team USA!
And I’ll see you all when I come up for air.
…how unbelievably spoiled I am.
Tell me this isn’t the most amazing bunch of flowers, you have ever seen?

And chocolate cake, too.

The boy knows the way to my heart.
Thanks again for all of the happy wishes. We are really blessed to have such an amazing family and friends.
I’m off to celebrate with him tonight (Thursday) and all day tomorrow. I’ll catch up with all of you over the weekend.
I still love how you can make me laugh no matter how bad of a mood I am in.
I still think you are one of the smartest people I have ever met.
I still love the way you look at me and that smile you have only for me.
I still thank God for helping me find my way to you.
I love that you bring me flowers and gifts…just because, even though I protest.
I still like that we can get, or give, “the look” and know exactly what the other is thinking.
I still think you are one of the kindest, most thoughtful and considerate men.
I still think we have made a pretty good life for ourselves.
I still don’t regret one decision we have ever made.
I still believe you are the best father in the world.
I still like having you as my best friend.
I still love you more and more each day.
I still look forward to so many more years together.
After 15 years –
I still love being married to you.
Both times I was pregnant, I spent nine months willing my girls to come out with J’s warm, chocolate-y colored eyes.
When Em came out, I realized that even with all of my willing (and eating a lot of chocolate) she was going to definitely have green eyes, like me. I was consoled by the fact that she got J.’s big, almond-shaped eyes, and not my squinty ones, though.
And when Addie came out, her eyes were even bigger, complete with even longer eyelashes – which I didn’t think was possible. Her eyes are more brown, some days they are close to that chocolate color, but most days they seem to be more golden, kinda green-brown, still definitely lighter than J’s.
In the end, (and all that really matters) I am happy to get to sing “Brown-Eyed Girl” to one of my girls. (Although I do adapt the lyrics to include Em’s pretty green eyes, too.)
Though as similar as they are, I am always astounded when I look at photos of them. The stories their eyes tell are very different, indeed.
Emma has serious eyes. Her eyes are wise beyond their wee little five years. They are always analyzing. Always thinking. Always plotting out her next move or scanning her environment, curiously anxious to ask her next question.
Addie on the other hand…
She does not have what I would call “serious” eyes. Where Em’s eyes seem so “wise,” Addie’s are completely child-like. She wears her heart in her eyes. One minute they dance with mischief and happiness, the next they are brimming with tears. They are so very expressive – you are never left wondering what she might be feeling or thinking.
It is why I love raising these two little girls.
They each come from the same set of genes, growing up in the same environment. You can tell they are sisters – you can see it in their eyes, yet they couldn’t be more different. They are two completely different and individual little beings.
Stop over to Stacy’s today to look through some other sets of eyes.
