Whaddya mean – I’m two? ~ Best Shot Monday

ella_hmm.jpg

It’s true, my youngest niece, Gabella-Ella turns two today! I hope you have a fantastic year, Gabella. And the very happiest of days to you. I’m very excited that we got to spend a few days celebrating with you.

In other news, we are indeed spending time with this sweet girl and my other two sweet nieces right now. We are here in Michigan for the week, so while I have all kinds of Christmas aftermath to post about, and a few projects that have to be done, I’m just enjoying my time away from home – and maybe taking a mini-blog vacation, too. I might post some stuff this week, I might not. We’ll just have to see.

I hope all of you are digging out from Christmas and have some good shots to show today, though!

Wishbone ~ Best Shot Monday

Whatever happened to that little wishbone that we dug out of the Thanksgiving turkey, I wonder?

DSC_0044.jpg

Oh, yeah! It has been drying out behind the kitchen sink for the past month. Do you think it is ready yet?

Come on, Addie – put a little muscle and enthusiasm into it!

DSC_0053.jpg

Yep – it apparently was plenty dry enough as it snapped into four pieces! Oddly enough, the long pieces were exactly the same and the smaller pieces were the same as well!

I guess both of us will have our wishes come true!

I just love this last photo of Em. I’m making it my Best Shot for today. Make sure to stop over to see if everyone else’s wishes are coming true, too!

Anticipation ~ Best Shot Monday

We had a lovely weekend filled with Santa visits, making gingerbread houses, shopping, and spending time with Daddy.

We are anxiously awaiting and anticipating Christmas this year. It really is amazing to experience Christmas through the eyes of your children.

Wishing you a week filled with anticipation and wonder of the season. Make sure to stop over to Tracey’s for more Best Shot Mondays, as well.

Crammin’ it in ~ Best Shot Monday

Our weekend started off with a lovely Saturday bagel date. We fueled up our tummies with bagels and our minds with all of the day’s news.

what is in the news?

And then? Well…I’m not really sure where the rest of the weekend went.

I guess it could have been lost somewhere along the way while we:
-Did some Christmas and birthday shopping.
-Grabbed some party supplies for Em’s soccer party.
-Bought our Christmas tree.
-Did a little real “work.”
-Cleaned the house up for the imminent party.
-Printed and hung some photos on the wall that has been pretty much bare for 2 years.
-Addressed and sent 75+ Christmas cards.
-And then decorated the other Christmas tree.

helping...

And that was the first half of the weekend.

Today, we managed to:
-Clean the house again (How – in less than 24 hours, how could it possibly get messy again?)
-Sing at church (well, Em and the Gospel cherubs sang – I just helped with the robing and de-robing)
-Celebrate our little friend’s 3rd birthday (complete with a bouncehouse!)
-And throw an end of the season party for the WonderGirls at our house. (Little hint – don’t even bother to clean your house – and certainly not twice! – when you are going have 11 kids running through your house with pizza and cupcakes!)

Exhausted. And other than the two photos here, I hardly took any photos.

But, J. took a bunch at the party for me and got this one which is my absolute favorite. The girls, giddy after some chocolate cupcakes, showing off their trophies.  So it is a J.’s Best Shot Monday today.

Outtake #223 ~ Best Shot Monday

I have a secret. As much as I protest, (and do not fear, you will hear much protesting and complaining in the next few weeks!) I really love to create the yearly Christmas cards and calendars. It makes me stop, spend a few moments, and peruse the photos from the past twelve months.

I am constantly amazed at how much stuff we managed to squeeze into the year. I marvel at how much the girls have changed, really how much our entire life has changed in just one short year. And I gain a little bit of closure on the old year and can prepare for a new one.

It allows me to be a little bit creative as well. I don’t always get to be the “fun” creative in my real job, so it is nice to have a little creative break. I have had an idea for this year’s Christmas cards for awhile now. I suspect that J. thought it was completely crazy when I first told him of my idea. But, like a good husband, he willingly tried to corral the monkeys and help me get the shots I’ve been dreaming of.

I’m working on making at least a few of the photos work, but I think the outtakes – the ones we shot after we were “done” –  might be even more fun.

Here is one of my favorites from the day.

Outtake #223

I just know next year when I’m working on the calendar I’m going to look at this shot and not believe how much they have both grown and changed. One thing that I hope doesn’t change – that they will remain cooperative in my crazy schemes and willing subjects for the Christmas photos!

For more changing shots, pop over to Tracey’s.

Recharge ~ Best Shot Monday

Slowly getting back into the swing of things here. Had a lovely “Mommy Recharge” weekend, and now I’m back and ready to go.

Everyone in California thought I was a bit crazy heading to Chicago/Wisconsin in November for a fun weekend, but it turned out to be just what I needed…
Grand Geneva LakeA pretty setting, some good friends, a sleep-in, and time to be me – not Mommy. (It didn’t hurt that we got a ton of crafting done, either!)

And then that amazingly good feeling as I walked back in the door. Home. Refreshed, recharged and ready to tackle my sweet little family. It was a great trip.

Visit Tracey for some other weekend highlights today.

The Waiting Game ~ Best Shot Monday

Seems like we are doing a lot of waiting lately.

The girls are always waiting for me to take them to the park – just let me throw in one more load of laundry or start the dishwasher.

I am always waiting for J. to get home and help takeover on “girly duty” – please, just get them through the baths and into bed?

And all of us are always waiting for the weekend – isn’t that when all the fun things happen?

So it is pretty fitting that my Best Shot Monday this week is Ad waiting around to give out a treat. (Or a trick, maybe?)

waiting for a trick-or-treat

I know some of you are waiting for real Halloween photos and the unveiling of the costumes(!), but while I try to get my stuff together over here, why don’t you go visit Tracey.  I’m sure there is a Halloween photo or two over there, and no waiting required.

Send Bail Money…Quick! ~ BSM

Nothing like seeing your child behind bars. At least the bail was only one carnival ticket and won’t go on her permanent record.

Send bail money...quick!

We had the complete opposite of a relaxing weekend. It was as fully packed as two days can possibly get. I’m exhausted and praying for a nice, easy work week.

I’m going to pop over to Tracey’s to maybe catch up on some calm, relaxing photos.

A Swing Moment ~ Best Shot Monday

My surfer girl

Lately it seems like the only words we exchange are repeated requests for you to do something, (those would be from me, of course) and whiny protests. (Yep, those would be from you.)

But tonight, because your sister did not finish her dinner in a timely matter, you and I headed to the park hand-in-hand. Just the two of us.

You chattered the whole way across the street about the Halloween decorations and what you should wear to school tomorrow and I was a bit distracted with the thought of my Monday morning calendar.

“Push me really high on the swing, Mama! Higher!” you called out to me.

And with every push, it was mesmerizing. I marveled at how long your legs have become. How when you are propelled forward, your head falls back and your hair sweeps the earth.

I sat in the swing next to you and just soaked you in. Back and forth. How high you can fly. You started to sing the song you had learned in Sunday school for me and then we just talked. Or rather, you talked, and I really listened. I learned more about you, your school days, your friends, and what is in your pretty little head in that 20 minutes we spent swinging tonight, than I have in the past four weeks.

It was my melting moment for the week. Thank you, my little bird for a much needed reminder to take a moment to swing in the present.

For more melting moments, visit Tracey’s today.
