Crafty Tuesday

This isn’t a post so much about my craftiness, but a little shout-out to my friend over at New Green Mama, who crafts some true magic with up-cycled goods.

I have sung her praises here before, her owls are to die for. Mine still hangs out on my desk, keeping me company and making me smile every time I look at her.

And my coffee cozy – it might have started my slight infatuation with little birdies. (Nah, I can’t blame that on you, Jen!) I use it all the time. Even when I bring my re-usable mug from home I  still use my cozy on it and sometimes I have to wrestle one of the girls for it, since they like it so much, too.

I have seen some little kitties, bunnies, and other creatures created with felt, and really wanted to try felting some sweaters to see if I could manage some sort of kid Christmas presents. (I also have a new niece or nephew on the way – wouldn’t a cute, soft little creature be a good way to welcome a new baby to the world?)

So when Jen made her coffee cozy diy kit available, I thought “how cool.” I would start small and see what it was all about.

So, the kit is adorable. I wish I had taken a photo when I opened it – the packaging is great. But in my great haste to tear it open and get started I wasn’t thinking so clearly and didn’t snap a photo until after.

And…the kit is so fun! And I did it while watching the Amazing Race on Sunday night. I love having something productive to do while I’m watching TV instead of what I’m usually doing. (That would be…um, blogging. Like right now.)

So it is quick and easy and very satisfying to have a Christmas present done. Although I might reattach the little Owly’s eyes with just white. She looks like she has pink eyelashes…and I’m not really digging that. But the rest of it…very cute!

I am going to give this to Em’s teacher for Christmas with a reusable cup and Sbux card. Emma told me that she ALWAYS has a cup of coffee from Starbucks, and I’ve run into her at our Starbucks, so I think it is one gift that will definitely be used and appreciated!

Now I’m jacked up to get started on some other handcrafted presents. Right after I finish those pesky Halloween costumes. I have three weeks. That is practically an eternity. No worries. :-)

What about all of you? Got some crafty goodies to share? How about ideas for Christmas presents to make for GUYS? Got any of those?

  1. I love Jen’s cozies. I got one last year and love it. You did a great job on yours. It looks like and easy craft to start with.

  2. You are so sweet Carrie. Thanks so much for the shout out. Your owl turned out perfect. I have not even started Halloween costumes. You are right 3 weeks is an eternity. I like working under pressure anyways. I can’t even think about Christmas presents right now. You are just too good. I can’t believe you have already started making presents.

  3. Great job and yes, love Jen’s stuff. That will be a well-adored present for her teacher, I will wager!

Good luck on the costumes! I need to get things done early because I have enough pressure with the house issues as it is. No need to burden those stress lines even more!

Can’t help you out with a guy gift. They are the hardest to get things or make things for.

  4. I think men in lounge pants are sexy, so there’s my thought for Christmas gifts for guys. ;)

The coffee cozy is just the coolest. (Ummm, warmest?) I think I’m beginning to feel your love for the birdies.

  5. I love having something to do while watching TV also. I feel less guilty for being lazy that way. The cozy is adorable and the pink didn’t bother me until you said something but now I see exactly what you mean.

  6. I wish my students would give me something as nice as that cosy rather than yet another box of chocolates! All my craft is on hold as school has gone back :-( Have to get started on the BA’s famous dress soon though!!!
