A Collection ~ Theme Thursday

Today’s Theme Thursday is collection. Besides my collection of dust bunnies, I’m not really collecting anything right now. I did collect spoons when I was little but I think they are somewhere at my parent’s house now, in the basement perhaps? Since Em is a bit of a hoarder (she has piles of scrap papers, all kinds of piles of stuff, and will not throw anything away) I am not surprised that she has already found something to collect.

Our trip to Hawaii pushed her occasional infatuation with the “smashed penny” into a full-fledged obsessive collection. So now we collect “smashed pennies” wherever we go. You know the crank machine where you put in 51 cents and get a penny imprinted with a logo.

Daddy found the cool little folder to keep her pennies in, and she likes to rearrange them and tell us how many spots she has left to fill. Finding a penny is never a problem, unfortunately we always see a machine when Mommy never has any quarters. I’m tempted for her birthday to get her a roll of quarters and a roll of pennies to drag around in her purse so we always have some.

Don’t forget to stop over to the Land of K.A. to check out what everyone else is collecting.

  1. I collect smashed pennies too! Everyone always thinks that is totally weird, and they always bring me some from fun places (since I never go anywhere!). What a great collection to have!

  2. I collected spoons as a child too – lol – think they are still at my parents house – ha!

That’s pretty cute that she likes her smashed pennies. It will remind her of some of the neat places she has gone to!

  3. That’s funny…. I didn’t know she had a smashed penny collection.. As a kid, the only smashed pennies we got were the ones we left on the train tracks…. my small-town upbringing always comes shining through. :-)

  4. Big Brother has a collection of smashed pennies, too! I recently thought of starting one with Harrison because he saw the machine at Disneyland and was enthralled. But we missed our chance at the Alamo in December. Hmm.

And I need one of those cool books for Big Brother!

  5. I have never seen a place to smash pennies, I must not be hanging out at the cool places. The only smashed pennies I’ve seen are the ones run over by trains.

  6. Well, I think my collection of dust bunnies may rival yours. ;)

What a great smashed penny collection, too. Hey, it keeps her occupied right? Plus, she has great mementos of places she has gone.

  7. When we went to FLorida in December – that’s all James wanted!!! He brought a baggie full of pennies and had a roll of quarters! We stopped every time we saw one – and sometimes had to get more than one design from each machine! He loved it – it was fun and SMALL to carry around and the whole family made an adventure out of looking for and pointing out the machines!
    FUN FUN FUN!!!

  8. Me too, me too! I have a dust bunny collection, and it’s growing at a VERY fast rate!

What a great collection for a little girl! She looks very proud of it. I have a couple smashed pennies mixed in with my keychains – shall I send them to Em??

  9. I’ve never heard of these before!! I totally missed this Theme Thursday and I have a great collection of miniature shoes which I could have shot. chizz >:-(
