Self ~ Theme Thursday

So our “assignment” for today’s Theme Thursday was to take a self-portrait. Blech.

This is how I feel about taking photos of myself…

Not a fan. Very rarely do I see a photo of myself and say, “Hey! Look at that – that is a pretty good shot of me!” In fact, I don’t think I have said that since possibly this photo.

But, being a good sport, and knowing that I can’t always be behind the viewfinder, I do want my great-grandchildren to know that their grandmothers actually had a mom. So we hauled the camera and tripod out to the front yard today. It was nearly impossible to get a photo with just me. Apparently my girls are fond of getting their photo taken, Em wanted to play with the camera remote, and she also wanted to show off her curly new ‘do.

When I told Em that we had to use the remote for the camera, Addie took off into the house and then returned with the television remote. “Here you go, Mama!” She is so sweet. Remotes for all!

Later on when Em was at school and Addie was watching Ariel (for the 40th time this month), I slipped into the dining room and tried again. I am “ok” with this one, and it’ll be my submission for today’s theme.

Also! If you have a minute will you pop over to my friend Vic at Life As I Know It and wish her a very happy birthday? Wow, all my beautiful friends are turning 29 this year! How fun! :-) Have the happiest of Birthdays, Vic!

  1. Great pics, Care. We’ve had the discussion about how we feel about ourselves in photos so no need to go there. You look great and are leaving a legacy for those great grandbabies:o)

  2. the first shot is exactly what i think of self portraits too!! ;) also, LOVE the shots with the girls. so cute!

  3. those are great photos — nice light in that last one! also love the “remote” your daughter brought to the picture :) !

  4. You look great, but that first does make me LOL! I think we all aren’t that fond of pictures of ourselves. I find problems with all of mine, too. BUT we need to show our children that they did have a young looking mom when we are old and gray. :) Oh, and the remotes…too cute!

  5. I love the setting with the tree. The three of you look so sweet. Em does really look like you. The lighting in the last one is very nice.

  6. What a funny post….. I really like the one of you and both girls. Love Emma’s hair… very cute. And you are beautiful, as always.

  7. LOL! That first one expresses my sentiments exactly. But you did a great job! Those really are great photos of you. both your girls look a lot like you.
Em – your curls are beautiful!
Ad – you are too sweet, getting “remotes” for everyone!

  8. I LOVE the shots – they are awesome! I totally covet the timer and tripod — I should probably add those to my list of things to get!

I am with Christina – I can’t believe how much the girls look like you! And I love the curls on Em – they are too cute!

  9. You are too cute! Your skin is so beautiful too! I say take more self-portraits! Your daughters are adorable! That is too cute that she ran in and grabbed the tv remote! :o )

  10. Tell Em that there is still hope – I didn’t have very curly hair when I was younger; it got wavy (and some icky frizz) when I was in middle school, and by the time I was in high school I had hair like this. And there isn’t anyone else in my family with curly hair anywhere — so you never know, maybe she’ll grow into it!

  11. I feel the same way – lol… Great photos though – it’s tough to put yourself on the other end of the lense…

  12. You summed it up for me in the first shot! lol! My sentiments exactly. But all your shots are GREAT!! I love the two with the girls.

  13. The last one turned out really well. The lighting and the shadows are lovely. :) Although the first one is how I really feel about self photos too. ;)

  14. Zoe ran in here with me while I was looking at these photos.
1st…. she was very concerned about why Emma was wearing her dress. (she has the same one… haha)
2nd… she looked at your last photo and insisted you were her Aunt Erica. She will take no other answer from me. “It’s Erica!!! Where’s Avery???”
3rd… great shots… I do like the first one. heeheehee
