I Left My Heart…

So this is where I left it! In San Francisco, of course, all those many years ago.

Man, I forgot how much I love this city. It really is quite possibly my favorite city, ever. (Well, ok…my favorite city in the U.S.)

All of my anxiety about traveling here with the girls was for nothing, of course. And every corner of this city holds a special little place in my heart, a funny story, a great memory. I really, really do love it here.

The girls were amazing little traveling troopers today. It was totally Trains, Planes, and Automobiles. We drove to Burbank airport, (Which I must say has my vote for best “big city” airport, ever! So easy, so clean, such helpful employees, and such happy travelers there!) flew the short little hop to Oakland, caught the AirBart bus to the BART station, took the subway into the city, and then walked the few blocks to our hotel. We later hopped a cable car to the Wharf and a taxicab back to the hotel.  I think if I could have talked the girls into a horse-drawn carriage ride, we would have hit every possible mode of transportation in one day. And even better, it was a “spare the air” day, so all of the public transit in SF was free! How lucky was that?

But back to this hotel. It is phenomenal. Totally tiny little suite, but the “kid’s room” is the coolest thing ever. It has dress-up clothes, an iMac, DVDs (with the requisite High School Musical, of course!), CD players with all kinds of kid’s music, a giant table with a huge drawer of blocks, and…the best part…bunkbeds! I thought Em was going to wet her pants when she walked into the room. She made several trips up there to stake her claim and was so excited that it was all she talked about.

So where is she right now?

Asleep in the bed right next to me.  Apparently Addie was making too much noise for her, so I told her to go lay in my bed until I got A. asleep. Thirty-five minutes later, A. finally crashed, I came back out and E. was long gone as well. There is no way I can get her up into the top bunk, so I guess she is crashing here with me tonight.

Both of them are exhausted. No naps, non-stop excitement, and a great new city. Who can blame them? I am, too.  But I have a little work to do before I can call it a night, so I’m off. I’ll try to finish up the details and post photos tomorrow.

  1. Wow, that hotel sounds fabulou!. Can you send me an e-mail with the name? I travel there usually once a year on business and I’d like to be able to have a weekend there with the kids at some point. I think they’d really like the warf, and I have yet to go to China Town or Alcatraz in all my visits!

  2. Sounds like the Voril girls had a great time! Glad to hear it. And yes the hotel sounds heavenly while travelling with little ones.

  5. Sounds like a fantastic trip! How do you keep track of two little girls by yourself with all that traveling? You are super mom.
