Crafty Tuesday

Hi my crafty peeps! Hope you have all had a great week. I have photographic proof of the kitchen painting. (And the reason I had nothing for CT last week!)

I finally like the color, after I went back and got “Pecanwood.” It seems the “Dusty Linen” was barely any different from the color of the trim and shutters. Now…maybe someone wants to talk me out of painting my cabinets? They would look so good with a fresh coat of “Dusty Linen” on them.

In other crafty news, Emma turned her diorama in yesterday. Hallelujah. I am proud of her, even if she was very insistent on doing it “her way.” All her design and her creation. She definitely knew what she wanted and is good at being bossy. “No Mama, I think that the seaweed should look like this…”

Needless to say, Daddy ended up helping her assemble the final product. It turned out very cool.

I was so excited to have a few hours to sew over the weekend and am working on putting my idea for those vintage aprons into motion. But it didn’t get far enough into motion that I can show it yet. Next week for sure.

I did finally finish a birthday gift for my best friend’s little guy. When Jen posted the tutorial for the art purses I was totally psyched. I have been looking for something that I can make for boys…it seems they don’t like vintage pillowcase dresses and such.

So I adapted the art purse into a little art book of sorts for our little guy. I obviously took the purse handles off and just put a little velcro closure instead.

I should have made it just a little bit bigger so my Mad Libs book would fit, but overall I was happy with how it turned out.

I have the fabric for two little girly purses cut out as well. Maybe if they have little art purses to take to church they will stop drawing all over my announcements and scrounging through my purse for pens? I think they might make good Easter gifts. I’ll try to get them done this week, too. And also I have about five different projects for a 7th birthday tea party coming up. Doesn’t 7 seem SO much older than 6??

Do you have any good crafty stuff to share today?

  1. Love the diorama! And it should be HER project………….you don’t want to be one of those mom’s that does it for her do you? LOL

Love the book………………and do you have any idea how much he LOVES mad libs? Thanks!

  2. I LOVE the color — it looks so restful and relaxing and who couldn’t use a little more of that? I love your table in the corner where all the windows are. You did a great job of painting — something I would NEVER try on my own. Being married to an engineer has taught me a few things in life. lol Anyway, great job!!

  3. Awesome diorama. I love the smiling octopus under that rock. Very cute. Let her do it now cuz one day it might not be so easy to get her to do it all. She’ll be begging for help. And what a cute purse! My nine year old could sure use one of those.

  4. She did a great job on her diorama. Well done! I love the little art notebook for the boy, too. I was thinking of making them for the kids for church, too. Sunday school ends May 5, so I have a little time yet. ;)

I managed to eek out an apron last night. I HAD to get it done since I’m giving it to my girlfriend on Wednesday and we are having a BBQ with friends tonight. Nothing like leaving things to the last minute! Fortunately none of my friends read my blog…so I didn’t have to worry about her finding out what I’m giving her. ;)

  5. I love how the art book turned out. Can’t wait to see the girl’s purses. Your kitchen looks awesome. So worth all the work, right? And Em’s diorama is perfection. She did an awesome job.

I have a little something up today.

Oh I definitely didn’t want to be one of those mom’s. But she and I lately…oil & water! All of my suggestions were met with exasperation and sighs from her. But now everyone thinks that I did do it all for her…she did such a good job they don’t believe that I didn’t do it! I rolled some clay for her and formed the sealion, and tried to make the sea kelp from pipe cleaners, but honestly…it was mostly HER doing.

  7. Wow! You guys have some great projects to be proud of! I love the kitchen color…and Em, she did a fantastic job!

  8. No craftiness from me today, but it looks like you were busy enough for the two of us. Perfect shade for your kitchen, and I say go for it with the cabinets. :) That you managed to paint AND put together the art book AND run a triathlon… And then little Miss Emma got her craft on too. Talented family!

  9. Golly, you get so much accomplished in a week! you really are supermom, Carrie. The kitchen looks terrific, and personally I love the look of painted cabinets. the art book is terrific. And Emma put that together almost all on her own? Wow, I wonder where she gets that craftiness…. ;)

  10. Your new Kitchen color is so cool… And Emma is following in her Mom’s footsteps, wanting to do everything herself. Emma diorama turned out great. The boys art book is such a cool ideal. Can’t wait to see what you do with the aprons.
