Crafty Tuesday

Little light here for CT today.

I have this little dress – horribly and quickly – photographed before we finally got to deliver it to our sweet little 1-year old friend.

This is one of those projects that started out with an incredible vision, and then fell apart incredibly quickly. Pretty much everything that could go wrong with this little dress….did. This is actually the 2nd dress – there is a first version that is going to be adapted for Em’s American Girl doll…it wasn’t even able to be salvaged.

It was supposed to be reversible…finally I gave up on that. The inside lining that light blue color in a cotton/linen, which come to find out is kind of see through. And why…oh why(???), did I think it was a good idea to put buttons on this? I hate buttonholes.  But, it is done, I do love the birdy fabric and Elizabeth seemed to like it just fine. I’ll get better photos of it on her some time.

And that, my friends, is all I have this week. Yikes. That sicky illness last week kind of through my crafting out the door.

But wait! I do have another little crafty tidbit I can show. I think I can probably show.

I didn’t get permission from my mom – but she doesn’t have a blog, and I’m pretty certain she won’t mind if I show off her Valentine card for a minute or two.

So check this out… (again, sorry for the crappy photography – in my dining room at 8pm at night…lovely 1970s chandelier lighting!)

So it looks like a simple little V-day card, right? Then you open it…

Can you see all the cutout folds? You can’t really get the full effect in this crummy view – but trust me, it is really, really cool. It got “whooaaa’s” from the whole family. So thanks, Mom! They had to have taken a long time.

And with that, what does everyone else have for today?

  1. i love the dress, it is adorable! the little birdy fabric is too cute. :)
and your mom’s valentine is amazing!

i have something posted but it is about the kids crafting not me… eventually i’ll so something crafty for myself, i think.

  2. I think your dress turned out just fine. And remember, the more buttonholes you do, the easier they get. That’s “a good thing” as Martha Stewart would say. :)

And Cheryl, if you’re reading this, oh my! I’ve sworn off exclamation points for this week (trying to break a bad habit) but that card definitely calls for one. Absolutely beautiful.

  3. I love the fabric on that cute little dress! It turned out very nice, so totally worth the stress, right?? ;) That V-day card is really neat, too. Your mom did a great job.

I just have one sewing project, too. It has been complete for a good month, maybe two, so I finally got a picture. :)

  4. That fabric is absolutely adorable. Love it!! I am sure you are glad for it to be finished. It turned out very cute. So I see where you get your craftiness. Your mom’s card is awesome.

I have a little something to share today. There was not much crafting going on at my house this week either.

  5. Whoa the valentine card is awesome. Time and love went into that one. :) The dress is way cute. I think making anything reversible would be hard, and the end result is adorable so not to worry.

  6. Bean you dress is so nice… You sure do a great job. And thanks for showing the card. Your family is worth all the extra effort I put into the card.
    Love
    Mom

  7. Okay, so now we know where your crafty talent comes from. That card is totally awesome! And the birdy dress is adorable – I can just imagine some chubby little girl legs sticking out at the bottom. :)

  8. WOW! You mean to tell me that your ENTIRE FAMILY is crafty? Oh mercy, to have some of those genes! The card is amazing — and I think the dress is adorable! I think the only way to make it cuter is to have an adorable little princess wearing it!

I have a crafty-type question for you — what do you know about embroidery machines? I need a new sewing machine and I have been looking at combo type machines, since I think that monogrammed things (especially for gifts) are awesome. But since I’ve never done any embroidery before, I wasn’t sure how hard it would be, even with a machine. And since you are just about the craftiest person I know, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the matter… Thanks!

  9. WOW -if you get your hands on directions for that awesome card, do share!!! That is amazing – really cool!

The dress is so sweet. Melissa has one dress I made for her….just one….it took so long and I am so proud of it…but alas, there is only one! :)
