This & That Thursday

What a difference four days, a horrific drive through blizzard-like conditions, and a plane ride makes.

Emmy could not be happier about trading in her boots for flip flops. And I could not be happier about giving up the constant negotiation with little Addikins. Seems the girl doesn’t think she needs to wear a coat. And well, I don’t need to tell you how that just doesn’t work in nine degree weather. Yeah, it was NINE…before the windchill.

I know this isn’t new news to most of you, since you are living in it at the moment, but whew…my blood has thinned. I think I can truly be classified as a California girl now.

This is the bounty we picked from our garden yesterday afternoon. Snowballs or lemons? Hmmm…it is a tough decision. (BTW, a box of avocados and lemons are on their way, Mom and Meesh!)

Thankfully we made it back home in time for all the festivities. Apparently all of our friends and most of our family decided to be born this week.

(Wishing you a very happy Birthday today, Aunt Vicki!)

While I worked on some birthday cards and crafts yesterday morning, Addie wiled the morning away working on cards (I think she ended up with four or five of ‘em?) for her very bestest friend, E.J. who celebrated her big 5 birthday.

And she insisted that we pick roses for E.J., too. (Check out how she signs her name – on the envelope. The way she makes her “d’s” kills me. They look like little cherries!)

A little bit of California sunshine and flowers for you on this lovely almost summer-like Thursday.

  1. UGH, I’m with you on the cold. I’m from the South and we are COLD lately and will be VERY cold today. Just can’t stand it. Makes pretty pictures but it’s not for me. Look at those sweet eyes coming over the flowers.

  2. Thanks for the birthday wishes, Care. We are expecting 10 – 12 inches of snow today which I seem to think is rather fitting because I was born in the midst of a blizzard. Are you absolutely SURE you wouldn’t want to be here instead of out there picking roses, lemons and avocados. Methinks you are a true California girl but I sure am thankful you venture back to Michigan once in a while so we get to see you! Stay cool :) !

  3. Yes, this former Michigander is finding that her blood has thinned as well living in the south now. However, we are in the middle of an Arctic Blast as I type. No school today b/c of ICE! I would take a summer day.
And seriously Care, how do you ever tell that big brown-eyed, sweet curly headed baby girl of yours no?

  4. Thanks for the little bit of sunshine. It is cold and snowy here and we don’t normally get too much snow. Brrrr. Those lemons look SO yummy.

  5. It is snowing right now… They even cancelled school today BEFORE the snow even started! Oh those lemons… they are almost as pretty as Addie… Man she is cute!

  6. Yes, we are loving the warm weather too and all the organic avocados you can eat!! Those are the cutest shots of Addie…

  7. I am so jealous! It so cold here on the east coast and I think they are calling for snow again. What I would give to pick lemons and avocados from my backyard.
Addie looks so grown up with her hair pulled up like that.

  8. I’m usually nodding along as I read about your mild weather – but not this time! It is freakin’ COLD here! We’re talking 18 degrees this morning, before windchill is factored in. Brrr.

    Other random facts:
Addie’s pink sweater dres is darling.
I would LOVE to have avodados and lemons in my backyard. Guac every day!
Nadia makes her “D”s the same way – kills me!

  9. Love love love those contrasting shots. Hard to believe they’re taken in the same country. Here it is hot, hot, hot with a little bit of hot thrown in although Mum and Dad are facing the possibility of being snowed in and prevented from flying out of the UK on Saturday! Those lemons are gorgeous. I would LOVE a lemon tree. When we do our garden makeover (dream on) I will definitely incorporate one. And as for that beautiful Addie. *sigh* The roses pale in comparison. Incidentally we have very similar coloured roses in our back garden although they’re looking pretty sad and sorry at the moment.
