Crafty Tuesday

Today’s Crafty Tuesday I would like to dedicate to my mom. As I was sewing like a mad woman today I realized that I learned many things from my mom, but what an incredible gift she gave me by teaching me to sew. Not only is it a very useful hobby/craft to have – but I can make money doing it, too!

Okay, so there is no chance J. will be quitting his job and retiring just yet, but I did make a tidy little profit at the Boutique last Friday – enough to make a pretty big dent in our Christmas shopping bills. I was pleased, and it was very fun, too.

Here was the dress lineup…

We sold all but four of them. And then Em claimed one of them when I got home, so I have three left. I might just give them as Christmas presents.

My absolute favorite dress (made from an Anthropologie tea towel) sold as I was pulling it out of the bin to hang it.

Two of my other favorites sold, too.

So the dresses sold well. And Jamie sold a bunch of her aprons. She also sold some personalized Christmas jammies, too. Addie got the sample pair – she has worn them every night since she got them. She loooves them.

I also took orders for SUPERcapes. So I’m supercaping this week to try to get the orders done in time for Christmas. I finished three today, so I think I have six more to go? I am loving the princess capes lately, though. I found these rhinestone beads for the top of the crowns…they are pretty sweet.

I had a lot of fun putting together the marketing and merchandising goods for Two Birdies, too.

So those are the goods from over here. Thanks again, Mom for the many sewing lessons and trying to teach me to be patient as I rip out yet another seam. I appreciate it very much.

How about you? Got some good stuff to show today?

  1. Look at you crafty businesswoman! It sounds like Two Birdies is a smashing success. I’m so happy for you. :) Kudos to you too for remembering to thank your Mom. I should do the same.

  2. What a great result!! Mind you we shouldn’t be surprised as the dresses, jammies and capes are all so cute and who doesn’t love something personalized and made with love (unlike everything you get at Target)….
It’s funny what you say about your mum. My mu didn’t actually teach me to sew per se. We had had a few lessons at school and one day I asked her to sew me something and she said ‘do it yourself’ or words to that effect. I protested my inability and she said (I remember it so clearly) that ANYbody could follow a pattern! And so I began to sew! It is a great gift isn’t it?
Oh! And guess what? I have found my overlocker!!!!!!!!! After numerous frustrating attempts to get somehting off ebay, a friend knew someone who was selling one. I get it on Friday! I can’t wait…and perhaps NEXT Tuesday I will have something to share :-D
    Congratulations on Two Birdies!!

  3. What a fantastic success! That is awesome that you sold most of the stock you made. Those dresses are so pretty. :) What a great way to start on the shop for you two. Love your marketing materials, too. Great job on them, as well.

Today I have a few things…Anya’s Christmas dress for one. I still need to get the little man’s outfit completed though. Always so much to get done.

  4. Oh those dresses are so adorable!!!
    Congrats on the sales!
Addie looks so cute in her new pj’s….can’t wait to see the Etsy shop up!
    :)

  5. Congrats Carrie. Those dresses are beyond adorable and I LOVE, LOVE the capes. All the marketing material is so cute too. You are so talented!!

  6. Carrie- your work is gorgeous!! I’m happy it went well for you guys and I just adore the birdie dress!!!!! Keep up the awesome work and let us know when you have your website up and running :)

  7. I love the capes. The little baby blankets that I tie around the boys neck look like rags compared to them. I need to get on the ball and make them some real capes. Did you use a pattern or did you create your own?
The little dresses are so cute. If I had a little girl we would be broke because I saw at least 5 of them I would have snagged up!

  8. So very very happy for you! Your stuff is gorgeous… so it’s totally not a surprise that it’s selling well.

Did I miss something about where to find your stuff? I’m feeling silly that I don’t know if I can order something from you!

  9. Hi Bean, The dresses are so adorable… Glad that your day was a success. Also a big thank you for the compliment.
    Love
    Mom

  10. Care! I love the dresses and am very impressed with how well the ribbons match. How did you know what size to make for each size. Like the one says “3T”, how did you know it was a “3T”? I also love the pj’s that A is wearing! I would so love a pair of those for Sarah but she’d probably outgrow them faster than they could be sewn! Speaking of that, A looks about 6 feet tall in them! So glad to hear that the sale went well and I know your online store will do just as well.

  11. You have SO found your niche! Everything is just fantastic, so adorable and clearly well made and great merchandising too! No wonder you did so well. Thar big rack of dresses just blows me away – you’ve been BUSY!

But your tribute to Mom teaching you to sew…sigh. My mom is a great seamstress as well but I just never took to it. Now I want to learn again!
