Are you smarter than an (almost) 4-year old?

I know every mother thinks her child is a genius, but Emma has been astounding me all afternoon. She just might be as smart as her Daddy one day.

We have had a leisurely day together while Addie takes an extra long nap (which she totally needs, but that is fodder for another blog, another day) and we have actually accomplished a little bit of purging as we “played,” too – which is nice.

We’ve been cleaning the playroom out and “donating” toys to kids who can use them. Em has been a trooper and amazingly ready to part with stuff that I thought she would not be able to let go.

But that isn’t the point.

We were matching up puzzle pieces and trying to sort through the bins of puzzles we have and she was putting together her United States puzzle and flying through it! She started on the West coast (naturally) and she just knew which piece came next as she worked across the puzzle. Not only that – she knows the names of most of them and a little “trivia” about some of them too! Most of the trivia is of the “This is where Grandpa lives” or “Illinois is where I was born” or “Hey, this is Hawaii, where you and Daddy are in that picture!” nature – not exactly going to help her on Jeopardy, but the memory on that kid! I haven’t really done this puzzle with her much, but Denise and J. have, so I guess I just got to see it firsthand today. It was really, really cool to see how her little big mind works.

I guess for her birthday I should get her a world map puzzle. And then she can help me learn my geography.
