Smokey’s favorite spot on “her” chair.
She was our first “baby.” I can still remember picking her out of the bunch in that old barn almost fourteen years ago. And attempting to give her a bath (or five) to get rid of her fleas. And then her attempt to singe all of the whiskers off of her face when she got too close to a candle. And the many cross-continental flights she took with us on our moves. And introducing her to her the much detested Tiger cat (although I think they grew to secretly love each other!). And the way she would run from the furthest corner of the house with a chorus of “meows” when she would hear the whip cream can get uncapped.
She was such a good kitty and we are just trying to remember all of those good things today. But I have a very heavy heart when I look at her empty spot. She will be so very missed.
I’m sorry. However, I think you’re doing the right thing focusing on all the good memories everyone has had with her.

Oh Carrie, I am so, SO sorry! My eyes are welling with tears just to think of it. You are doing well to focus on all the love and good memories you’ve shared! ((Hugs))
Oh, my heart breaks for you all. Losing a pet is so difficult. They grow to be such an important part of your family. I’ll keep you all in my thoughts as you remember the joys and blessings that Smokey brought to your family. (((Hugs)))
Poor sweet Smokey! Poor you! It is so hard to lose a member of your family. There is a good book for kids called “Cat Heaven” It has pretty illustrations and a simple story.
oh, that makes me think of our Niles…and his favorite spot…must go cherish and pet him a lot…right now!

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

So sorry Carrie, I can totally empathize with how you feel.
Very sorry to hear about Smoky, Carrie. Sounds like he had a full life and, I’m sure, lots of love during it. I’ve had to bury a few furred friends and it is never fun.
That makes me so sad for you! At least you have happy memories to remember her by…

we went through similar things (3 times in about 18 months) and it was heartbreaking!! it’s true that we are lucky to have our kitties for so many years but it just makes us miss them more. this image is a lovely (albeit very sad) ode to smokey. thinking of you.
