Why do I have a sinking feeling about this?

Addie went to bed minutes ago – unswaddled. No pull-up. Just purple Ariel “big girl” pants between her and the nice dry sheets. I will add that she has had dry pull-ups the last few mornings, but I really wanted just a few more dry nights, as a bit of a cushion.

Still, she was so very insistent tonight that she is a “BIG GIRL!”

The whole time we were having this argument discussion, I kept having flashbacks to the night that Emma declared the end of her pull-up era. After Em had made up her mind – there was no stopping her. And I think that she has had maybe one (?) accident since that night.

So, tonight I relented. I let Addie go to bed and, hopefully, prove me wrong.

We’ll see.

  1. Ohhh, I hope she woke up dry and I think you made the right decision. Not that my opinion matters much as I seldom know what I am doing as a mother. But…you’ll never know if she’s ready unless you give it a whirl. And I think giving her a chance will boost her confidence which goes a long way in potty training. Again..I am soooo NOT an expert. Just sharing my penny’s worth of personal knowledge.

  2. I totally agree with Becoming Me. I guess there is a fine line between boosting confidence — and letting them think that you believe they really can do it — and a few wet bed clothes in case it didn’t work out. Bed clothes can be fixed — a child’s confidence is a very fragile thing! Here is hoping all went well!

  3. oh, i hope it went well!! that is pretty exciting! :)

we are almost to that point. bean wakes up about 4 mornings a week dry, sometimes more. she is nervous about sleeping in big girl undies still though, she asks for her “practice undies” (what she calls her pull-ups!) before going to bed. i’m sure it won’t be long before she wants to try though.

  4. So far Zoe has been a potty pro during the day. This week she started refusing a pull up for nap. I finally gave in… and so far it’s been a success. Our next step is bedtime. I’m hoping she’ll go a few more weeks with a nighttime pull up. She’s really not regularly dry in the mornings yet. I did buy a couple waterproof bed pads in preparation. It will kill me to move her to her brand new bed and mattress in the next couple weeks and end up with the mattress immediately peed on!!!

At least it’s just us moms that are stressed. It seems that Zoe and Addie aren’t concerned at all of this whole potty training business!

  5. I’m waiting for the update! I have to say when my 2 youngest declared they were ready to go “unswaddled” they really were. Just had 1 digression that didn’t last long. But, I agree with Aunt Vicki; their confidence is fragile and having to wash some sheets and clothes is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things (other than I know you have a lot on your plate right now). Here’s hoping it was a dry night :o )

  6. Carrie,
If she is ready, I am sure she will try her best. GO GIRL!!!

Hey, I could use your help today, I am trying to raise money for the lady I referred to weeks ago who is dying of cancer. I have 16 hours left on the childrens apron auction and want to raise as much money as I can with this auction. Would you mind mentioning it on your blog today? I will return the favor.

  7. So? How did it go??? If Addie says she’s ready, I bet she is. We are still so far from that big step….we’re still working on pottying in the potty chair in the first step. She doesn’t even care if that means she’s still a baby. Oh well, I guess she’ll get there in time.
