At least she is still walking towards home…

…instead of walking away.

I let Em start walking home from school on her own this week. I know it is only across the street (well, actually – two streets – I make her walk up to the crossing guard and then back down the block!) but it is kinda a big step for us all. I wait out on our corner for her and her first words were, “I feel so grown up now that I walk home by myself.”

sigh.

  1. Not only does she feel grown up — She sure LOOKS it! Good for you for letting her take the first step toward independence. Probably was just as big for you as it was for her.

  2. Ha! Wait til the first boy comes sniffing around wanting to help walk her home. That is what we are battling right now. :-) It only gets better my friend. Make sure Jamie is ready. He might need those Hulk Hands again to beat them off.

  3. I remember when the BA started riding her bike to school. To start with, I rode alongside her on a scooter! One day I waved her off and then got in the car and met her at every intersection! It was a process :-) . Eventually she did it with out a second thought. Great for independence. Good for you guys taking this step. And you’re right, at least she’s still walking towards you…..
