Crafty Tuesday

I’m in need of some honest opinions here.

I’m reusing a bunch of old t-shirts that were rescued from the Goodwill pile and I’m making little baby knit hats with them. The tees are perfect, all soft and cuddly sweet. But the pattern I’ve been using has cute little ribbons around the “ears” that, for the girls, are tied into cute little bows.

I’m not entirely sure if it works for little caps that are intended for little boys. Remember it is all girls, all the time around here. So I sent a pic of it to my other Birdie and asked her – “too girly?” Yeah…I’m asking my cohort in crime who also has…ALL GIRLS (even one more than over here), ALL THE TIME.

So I’ll ask you guys instead. Any mommies of boys – would you put this on your little one? Should I ditch the ribbons?

Oh, I wish I lived closer so that I could come to your event. I do have a boy, but feel so far away from the sweet baby stage. I think the ribbons might be a bit too girly though. I am not sure if it would make a difference if the ends of the ribbons were shorter.

Hats are adorable BUT I would not put them on a little boy with the ribbons on them. Perhaps just sew the ears instead of tying with ribbon. Or sew a strip of fabric around the ears to keep them closed.
Despite the colors and/or theme of the hat, people will see the ribbons and say, “Oh my, what a sweet little girl you have!”

The hats are very sweet though!

SEE…that is what we needed. A mama of boys (albeit older ones!) to give us the scoop. I’ll revise them!!

I would ditch the ribbons. maybe use buttons instead? Or wrap a piece of ribbon around without leaving loose ends?

Yea…I don’t have boys (unless you count stepsons) but I wouldn’t be giving ribbons to friends with baby boys either Other than that, this is such a neat way to reuse old Tees!!!
And guess what? I went to a sewing class yesterday and I MADE something!!! I am a little embarrassed to put it up for Crafty Tuesday though…..(sheepish grin)
