Crafty Tuesday

I totally spaced on CT last week. I may have been painting, or cutting out some lion costumes, or just running around like a crazy woman. Who really knows! All I do know is that Tuesday came and went and I didn’t have anything to put up there for you all. This week it is all about practical projects and getting things crossed off of my to-do list.

And I can show the bathroom this week. First let me refresh your memory of the girls’ totally 60′s bathroom. (Excuse the horrid photo – it was the only one I could find, but you get the general idea, yeah?)

Mmmm…pretty, eh? Can you blame me for my wallpaper-tearing-down fit? Remarkably, the wallpaper was easy to come down but it came down and left bare plaster walls. So I primed it and had every intention of putting a nice, pale yellow on the walls. But once the primer was on, the white just looked so nice and clean. So I went with a warm, yellow-ish white. And, now – I smile every single time I walk into that bathroom.

I swapped out the white photo frames for black ones and shot some new bath photos last night for the other wall, too.

Now I’m on the search for some cute vintage tea towels to make little half curtains for the windows. Stay tuned on that one.

I have a baby shower today, so I put together some burp cloths. My friend doesn’t know the sex of the baby yet, so it was all kinds of green for the cloths. And I found the softest, light-green chenille for the back of them.

And I attempted another little project that I’ve wanted to do for awhile…but I finally had to shelf it this afternoon. It is kinda a big fat FAIL. For now at least, until I can re-work it and hopefully make it work.

They are supposed to be these little A-B-C stacking blocks, but the cubes are a little lopsided and I’m having lumpy issues. However, I did re-purpose the little birdy that was supposed to go on the B cube and made a baby card instead.

And I helped Ad’s teacher by zig-zagging little handprint projects. I’m not really sure what they are doing with them, but Addie was so very proud that Mommy was doing something for HER class for a change. She also, ah…ahem…helped me.

Now we are back to our regularly scheduled programming…and cutting out lion manes. Fair warning – next week will be all lions and hopefully 19 completed lion heads. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

  1. The bathroom looks uh-mazing! What a difference a little paint and elbow grease can make. The blocks, that looks like something I would do. I’m sure your next try will be spot on. Oh, and those burp cloths look so soft. I wouldn’t mind having a pillow case made out of that chenille!

  2. I don’t know how you stood that bathroom as long as you did. Wow, it was a tad bit loud but it looks great now. Amazing what a little paint can do.

  3. I love the fresh clean look of the bathroom. I love how the white walls and black picture frames tie everything together. Those burpcloths look so soft and cuddly. I have another lickety split bag to show for today.

  4. Wow…that bathroom is just…wow….

But your redo looks AWESOME! And it reminds me that I have GOT to get some new pictures printed and framed and hung on my very BARE walls!

And what a cute set of burp cloths — what a lucky baby to get such a thoughtful and pretty gift…and the kiddo isn’t even here yet!

  5. Well, okay then. YES, I can see what inspired the wallpaper-tearing fit. Oy. But your redo looks awesome, so clean and fresh and even the turquoise tile looks good now! Loving all the bath photos…and with your pretty bathroom, now you can take bathtub photos that aren’t all closeups!

My sister made some of those soft blocks, and she agrees that they are a big pain. I think she had a tutorial…I can ask her if you like!

I’m always so amazed by how much you do for the girls schools, too.

  6. Wow Bean you have really been busy….. I love the new look of the girls bathroom. Great job on all of the projects.

  7. Wow! The bathroom looks completely different. Amazing how awful the wallpaper made the room look. Great job with the painting. Love the photos on the wall. Someday I’ll get my act together and frame the photos from, well, the last 4.5 years…

And those sewing projects – so cute.

  8. Oh boy! What a feast!! First the bathroom. I am always amazed that people ever thought those heavily flowered wall papers went with ANYTHING let alone that heavily geometric superb retro tiling. :-D You were SO right to go with the neutral paint colour. Stunning. Nice burp cloths too. I never see pretty fabric like that but then I never have a lot of time to look. Well done for posting your ‘fail’ as well :-D although to be honest it doesn’t look that bad….I know what you mean though, when it’s a gift you want it to be right. I’m sure you’ll get back to it and find a way to make it work. Those handprints were a labour of love though. Awesome. Mother’s Day has passed so I wonder what they’re for? Oh! Good work on recycling the birdie too. That would be a baby card to treasure.
