Crafty Tuesday

Well I have had quite a craft-a-liscious week around here. I’ve got my creative hat on and all kinds of projects in the works, but I think some of it I may wait to share until next week. Post-birthday party.

I did finish an apron for our friend Jenny as a Congratulations/Good Luck present.

Apron for Jenny

Jenny just opened her store Home Ec, here in LA, and we stopped by for her grand opening last Friday. She put the apron on straight away and looked a.dor.able, as always.

But…Oh.My.Crafts.  It is a wicked cool place to shop, hangout, craft. If you are in the LA area, go check it out. I didn’t get as much time as I needed to really shop, but J. and the girls managed to and they found all kinds of crafts for me to do. You know, in my spare time.

I have wanted to try needle-felting for awhile now, and of course the fact that there is a CAT on the cover, meant that the girls thought this would be a good book for me to own. It has potentially cool, little gifts. Plus is something I can do while we are watching TV. (Good TV, that is starting soon! Hooray!)

And they also found this little kit with two felt (BRIGHT PINK) deer!

When I got it home, we realized that the instructions are all in Japanese. I think I can probably figure it out, but it might be a little more of a challenge.

Addie has asked me five times a day if I have her deer done yet. Which I do not.

And I do not because besides doing all kinds of graphic design projects for Em’s classroom and becoming (I’m still not sure how) the editor for the PTA newsletter, I have been preparing for the BIRTHDAY PARTY! That is TOMORROW!

Next week I’ll show the invites, the banners, the super-Addie cape (which is about 20 kinds of awesome!), and the cake. Speaking of which, Addie and I need to go make some fondant birds for her cake. (Don’t ask. I’m not sure how this cake happened, either!)

Anybody else have some craftiness today?

  1. You are definitely on a roll. I love the apron. Her shop sounds down right dangerous to me. I can’t wait to see how you like the needle felting. I also can’t wait to see yor cake. Carrie- you are one superwoman.

  2. If you pull that cake off, you will officially be my hero. :-) Love the apron, and the deer looks like a fun project. But in Japanese? Oy vey! (Or if you want it in Japanese – YARE!)

  3. I love, love, love, love the apron! Thank you again– SO MUCH! I am wearing it RIGHT NOW!

& sorry for forgetting to warn you about the kit directions being in Japanese! What can I say, Japan just has a stranglehold on all things cute!! But, the good thing is that all the deer parts are pre-cut so you really just have to eyeball the photo as you go. I also recommend splitting up the embroidery floss they provide and sewing with only 2 strands at a time so the stitches are smaller & more even. Here’s a pic of a monkey one of my likewise non-Japenese speaking pals made from one of the Japanese craft kits:

So, I know you can do it! Come back & hang out soon. Just got the new Amy Butler “Little Stitches for LIttle Ones” book in but you probably already have it… !!

  4. That apron is indeed gorgeous. Love the fabric. And I have book marked that cake site. It is awesome! Good luck with the cake. I’ll be looking forward to pictures next week. I did have something crafty this week but as it is a present for A Free Man’s new baby and I haven’t given it to them yet…..it’ll have to wait for next week. Meanwhile I have been sewing pockets on pinafores, cutting out waistcoats, altering dresses and working on the iconic Annie dress :-(
    Maybe next week.

  5. Nope, no craftiness over at my place – you seem to have it all there! how does one woman do so much? Or is that your secret, there’s really TWO of you?!

  6. You had me at “Red Velvet” with that cake link! Oh. My. Gosh!

I’ll have to make my way to that shop one of these days – so cute! I’ve always wanted to do some felting too – but never follow through. We had some felting wool in two colors for felt play food and one of them fell into the trash can before I ever realized and *poof* it’s gone – never used. Duh.

    The apron is so cute!
