Crafty Tuesday

Why, hello there! Just digging myself out from behind the sewing machine over here.  All of the costumes are done and just waiting for the musical this weekend. Can I get a “Hallelujah?”

Plus, I finally got Addie’s little pillowcase dress sewn up. She had it on for exactly 1.5 seconds, so photos of the dresses actually ON the the girls are still coming. But here is the finished dress…

It is a really small pink and green checked seersucker. It is girly and cute and looks really sweet on her!

But the REAL project around here the past two days has been our playroom/office/craftroom.

So the story. We had our desk on the big wall of the room, which also has the outlet that is controlled by the lightswitch. So for awhile, we had an extension cord for all of the desk stuff (phones, computers, etc.) that ran across the doorway to another outlet. Not optimal.

And then, we had the great flood of ’09 and I had to rearrange the cords to get make sure nobody got electrocuted and therefore the lightswitch did not, in fact, turn on any lights, but would shut our computer off if it was on. It was very inconvenient.

So this weekend, J. went in to rig it all back up properly, and he innocently suggested that maybe I would like to move the office and craft area back into the little nook area – otherwise known as the “black hole of toys.”

First, I LOVE to rearrange and organize rooms, but I’m not really able to rearrange many of the rooms in our house now because we have lots of windows, and most of the rooms have really only one “way.”

So, of course, I had to accept that challenge! Plus the toys have been needing a good whittling down for awhile, and we are having a garage sale in a few weeks, so perfect opportunity. Three garbage bags for the tag sale, and one garbage bag to recycle later, and we are getting close to a finished room. Again.

The new layout leaves a lot more room for the girls to actually hang out and play.

And it also tucks all of my stuff back into this little area, full of beautiful natural light. I love it!

Of course, I’m not doing any real close-ups of my area yet. I’m going to tackle that tomorrow (today). But I could possibly even put up a little curtain and hideout back there. Maybe I shouldn’t have put my sewing machine away so quickly, hmmm…

What about everyone else? Any good crafty stuff? Any Clean House projects? Let me have ‘em!

  1. the dress is very cute…. and doesn’t look all that complicated. maybe bean would like one. is there a pattern? do you have any pointers for someone who isn’t very good at sewing?

also, i was crafty this week too! come see!! :)

  2. It’s beautiful! Very inspiring, very fresh. Hopefully my madness will begin today. I expect mess before success.

  3. The dress looks so sweet! Great job and can’t wait to see little Addie sporting it this summer. :)

Love your revamped area, too. That looks like it is a great place to hang out for the girls and having a hidey hole for you is wonderful, too! As long as the kids don’t want play at your feet that is. My kids’ toys tend to gravitate towards my sewing area even though they have a huge space in our unfinished basement to play. I’d opt to put up a barrier…a curtain is a great idea!

I have a princess dress for Anya up today. :)

  4. That dress is very cute, love the ribbons on the shoulders :)

  5. I love your new craft nook. What a peaceful looking spot! And the dress, lovely. I’m going to give sewing Raya a dress a try here pretty soon, so I may have to bend your ear if I get stuck. ;)

  7. Reorganizing is one of my favorite things to do and I am constantly moving stuff around. It makes everything look fresh and new. I love your new craft nook. What a great idea to move your office in there. The dress is adorable too.

  8. When you said you were rearranging, I wondered if you were going to move your stuff back into that little sun room. Looks nice. Great job!

  9. It really does look fantastic – like something out of a magazine! I would love to have a dedicated playroom like that. I like to rearrange too, but hubby’s the type to resist change of any kind….so if I do change anything, he puts it right back as soon as he gets home. LOL

The pillowcase dresses are so cute. I’ve been itching to try sewing again, that might be a good one to start with…

I’ve got a CT post up today!

  10. That dress is adorable. I must dig out my sewing machine and learn how to use it!

I love your new space – that nook is perfect.
