Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s a phonebooth!

Isn’t it astounding to think there are some things our kids will never have the pleasure of knowing or using – like cassette tapes, VCRs, window cranks, live television, pay phones.

We did have the pleasure of playing with a pay phone over the weekend, however. Two, in fact. These old British phonebooths are tucked in a little courtyard near where we had lunch. The girls found them fascinating.

How cool is this?
Hey, Mom! Look how cool this is!

You rang?
You rang?

There is a phone in here…with a cord!
There is a phone - with a cord - in here!

Hello?
Intently listening...ha!

Uh…huh. Yep.
Hello?

Sometimes it is the little things. And this is why I always have my camera with me.

  1. Wise mommy! Great shots and I can just hear them talking to their friends on the phone. Just imagine all the things our kids will never really experience.

  2. I think that kids on the phone are the cutest – and those old-time phone booths are awesome!

I totally remember when you always had a quarter with you when you went out – for a phone call!

  3. Maggie – How about having a dime with you for that call!!

Care, what will they do if they discover a phone with a DIAL on it in addition to the cord.

I won’t even start on the “Central” operator thing, there’s some parts of the 50′s in the UP that you kids (or your kids) just wouldn’t understand.

    Great shots

    Love,
    Dad

  4. Those are cool looking phone booths. Even cuter phone booth customers. They are a sight for sore eyes. :-) I’ve missed you guys this week.
My mom has a corded phone in her office, which I answered while working on her computer last week. While talking, Will came in and was playing with the base of the phone. I thought he was going to hang it up and after yelling at him, I explained myself by saying something like, “Mom’s got one of those old fashioned corded phones in this room. I thought Will was going to hang it up!.” Old fashioned – ha! Isn’t that all we had growing up? Feeling old now.

  5. I love your “the phone has a CORD” comment. LOL! Those phone booths really are too cool! The phone is nearly as big as Addie. ;)

  6. I LOVE the pictures! How funny to think our kids might not know what a payphone is or the cords! Weird!!!
