{"id":1096,"date":"2008-08-07T01:00:22","date_gmt":"2008-08-07T09:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/barelycontrolledchaos.wordpress.com\/?p=1845"},"modified":"2008-08-07T01:00:22","modified_gmt":"2008-08-07T09:00:22","slug":"the-eyes-have-it-theme-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/barelycontrolledchaos.com\/wordpress\/?p=1096","title":{"rendered":"The Eyes Have It ~ Theme Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both times I was pregnant, I spent nine months <em>willing<\/em> my girls to come out with J&#8217;s warm, chocolate-y colored <strong>eyes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When Em came out, I realized that even with all of my willing (and eating a lot of chocolate) she was going to definitely have green <strong>eyes<\/strong>, like me. I was consoled by the fact that she got J.&#8217;s big, almond-shaped eyes, and not my squinty ones, though.<\/p>\n<p>And when Addie came out, her <strong>eyes<\/strong> were even <em><strong>bigger, <\/strong><\/em>complete with even <em><strong>longer<\/strong><\/em> eyelashes &#8211; which I didn&#8217;t think was possible. Her <strong>eyes<\/strong> are more brown, some days they are close to that chocolate color, but most days they seem to be more golden, kinda green-brown, still definitely lighter than J&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, (and all that really matters) I am happy to get to sing &#8220;Brown-Eyed Girl&#8221; to one of my girls. (Although I do adapt the lyrics to include Em&#8217;s pretty green eyes, too.)<\/p>\n<p>Though as similar as they are, I am always astounded when I look at photos of them. Her <strong>eyes<\/strong> are wise beyond their wee little five years. They are always analyzing. Always thinking. Always plotting out her next move or scanning her environment, curiously anxious to ask her next question.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a title=\"Even playing she is so serious by Voris, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/voris\/2739924789\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3108\/2739924789_4b2d10a3a0.jpg\" alt=\"Even playing she is so serious\" width=\"500\" height=\"345\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Addie on the other hand&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a title=\"Double-fisted by Voris, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/voris\/2740744576\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3102\/2740744576_444004118b.jpg\" alt=\"Double-fisted\" width=\"500\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">She does not have what I would call &#8220;serious&#8221; <strong>eyes<\/strong>. Where Em&#8217;s eyes seem so &#8220;wise,&#8221; Addie&#8217;s are completely child-like. She wears her heart in her <strong>eyes<\/strong>. One minute they dance with mischief and happiness, the next they are brimming with tears. They are so very expressive &#8211; you are never left wondering what she might be feeling or thinking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a title=\"My brown-eyed girl by Voris, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/voris\/2740758782\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3243\/2740758782_b913030c87.jpg\" alt=\"My brown-eyed girl\" width=\"500\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">It is why I love raising these two little girls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">They each come from the same set of genes, growing up in the same environment. You can tell they are sisters &#8211; you can see it in their <strong>eyes<\/strong>, yet they couldn&#8217;t be more different.
